Does the R3 sound exactly the same as the Radias?

Post by PascalVB »

I know the R3 does not have PCM, drums, etc.
But apart from that, do sounds made on the R3 sound exactly the same on the Radias and vice versa?
I ask this, because you can hear all sorts of good sounding demos of the Radias, while the R3 demos all sound, well... cheesy and bad.

The R3 and Radias theoretically sound the same when set to the same settings. Same for the XL. However, the Radias has many more features that make much more complete, full sounding sounds.
Current: MS-20 Mini, Minilogue, SY77

What would these features be?
All I see when comparing both theoretically is:
Radias has:
- 4 part multitimbral vs 2 part
- 8 voices
- PCM
- Drum kits
- ...?

None of these would affect the sound in my opinion...

There are some differences in the synth parameters and modulation sequencers.

plus:
- not 8, 24 voices!
- Variable phase and waveform for the LFO's
- Internal bus routing (timbre x can be input to osc of timbre y)
- 3 modulator sequencers for each timbre
- Envelope follower
not to mention the lot of "direct" parameter controls to fiddle with in real time and other features I can't remember now...

Not to mention the fact now that the Radias has been lowered from $999 to $699 makes it a no brainer of which one to purchase IMO.

The Radias is still 899 euros over here in Europe, while the R3 is more like 499 euros....
