Lest make a petition to Korg for an absolutely New Electribe

Post by costi_ebay »

Hi everyone,

I am sure a lot of you guys would like to have a new Electribe, powerful and updated to the technology of 2010.

Also I am sure Korg has the power and resources to do it, so lets make a petition signed by all of us electribers and send it to Korg. Lets lead them to give us an answer eventually, if they plan to do a new one or they finished the Electribe series forever!

Korg must know that will be a lot of buyers for a new fresh and updated model, lets make a information campaign, on all the forums, on youtube, all the places you can imagine!

And lets make a virtual Electribe with all the decent things we would like to have on it. Please let them know your wishes for this new electribe and even drawings with all features you would like to be inlcuded.

For example I would like to see on a new tribe with above specs, these specs are included in more of the actual gear on the market including in the Korg one.

Specs:

1. One single model (not two) with sampling and synthesis (from EMX, microKorg or Radias). Sampling should be used also in the synthesis chain (like wavetables)

2. Sampling should have one shots and loop mode. One shots sampling have a loop lock for continuous play

3. Polyphony on synthesis and on sampling

4. In loop mode to have stretch and pitch algorithms (for every kind of sound sources: beats, bass, voices etc)

5. 16 channels

6. Every channel should have the option for one of the three modes: synths, sampling and loops

7. Tubes must be kept and have free routing configuration

8. More swing options

9. More velocity options

10. Using wav streaming technology like Roland Sp-404, Elektron Octatrak, Beat Thang hardware, so the wavs have to be loaded in real time from the 32 Gb SD card and don't have any loading time, memory limit or compression procedures. Or at least to have the system included in the new Yamaha Motif XF, 2 Gb flash memory, but I think the first option will be much much better...

11. USB type-B connection for:

A) memory transfers for samples, midi files, patches,
B) audio recording to and from the computer
C) acting as sound card
D) midi connections

12. Computer editor and VSTi editor so we can use it easy in our DAWs in perfect sync

13) 8 outputs 100% configurable (I know 16 will be hard cause of the costs)

14) The unit must receive midi CC#, so we can use controllers for all the parameters: volumes, filters, start and end point of the sampling, pitch, FXs values etc. Maybe, if is not to hard to implement, to have a USB type-A for midi controllers that don't have midi ports, like Korg Nanos (Beat Thang hardware will have this included when will be out)

15) Resampling everything, including the computer and through tubes. And if it possible to record it in real time and playback like the SP-555 or as a loop machine

16) Kaoss pad FXs algorithms, 2 sends FXs and 2-8 inserts FXs (depending of the costs)

17) More filter options, similar to Korg Zero mixers and why not the including the Monotron filter in the audio path

18] Pads must be velocity sensitive

19) Turntables inputs besides normal inputs

20) Spdif in/out. Eventually Adat out for all the 8 channels

21) The step sequencer must have the option up/down (from note A0 to note C8] and to be able to enter notes to create polyphonical sequences, similar to MC-909

22) To be able to have a special mode for every channel, a sequencer step-lock like Elektron machines, so we can have on every of the 16th step different parameters like pitch, filters, FXs, start and end point of the sample

23) Possibility for locking the Mute and Solo button

24) All the recording modes like the MicroSampler

25) A button that in combination with every of the 16th steps to give us 16 variations of the current pattern

Looking forward to your feedbacks and your ideas regarding a new Electribe and how we can determine Korg to do it!

I like your ideas and agree 100% but I seriously doubt we'll ever see any Electribe as complete as the one you describe. Korg will probably release some flimsy plastic box with Fischer Price knobs that relies on being tethered to a computer to do just about anything including the most basic tasks. A Korg rep will come here before it's officially released and hype the unit up and exaggerate it's capabilities while downplaying or playing dumb about it's short comings and even claim that these flaws are actually features. The masses will get pissed once they realize they've been had and the Korg rep will tuck his tail between his legs and run off like a cowardly dog never to return, but he doesn't have to because he already has your money.

that would still be better than non-existent Beat Thang hardware though!

A lot of what you ask is already available in korg's more traditional workstation packages.
If you really wanted all that in a tabletop module, you could go for the M3M.

I kind of get the impression that between the M3 and the microSampler, both tread on the Elecribe's toes a bit..

i was so pissed when the microsampler came out. korg probably got frustrated with the sampler market after that release. they wanted all the electribe people to be happy about a new sampler and all the microkorg people to be all "ohhh a microkorg that samples"... wahh wahhh waaaaahhhhhhhhh.

i would take the same tribe with a better/upgraded sequencer with NEW memory and more ram. then either a usb or midi plug that had "plug in and play" settings to work hand in hand with the pad kontrol. i would be stoked on that. i dont mind having the two separate and if they were mixed into one unit i would want twice as many tracks. well maybe not twice but more..

pipe dreams

Some of those wishful features are great but I personally bought one so I can compose music and not be near a computer at all. I don't have a huge problem with limitations because they make me more creative....which is one of the reasons I hunted down this machine in the first place.

limitations are one thing charging full price for a sampler that came out 10 or so years ago is another. the larger card has no interest to most people because the machine still only reads the same amount of media. plus if i have a 32 gig card filled up the machine SUCKS for browsing files on the card. i donno i think they could come out with SOME kind of upgrade and still keep you happy.

I think the point of the SD models is that SD cards are easier to find. since the menu structure and workflow on the machine didn't change, expecting to be able to use a 32GB card on a machine designed for 128MB cards is just wishful thinking

just because you can get SD cards of 32GB doesn't mean you have to use them

i would say these two statements (from korgs) website back my disappointment in the NEW sd storage addition.

Introduction

Refreshed and reborn with massive SD card data storage (up to 32GB SDHC), up-to-date patterns, the ELECTRIBE•SXSD remains an indispensible instrument for dance and electronic music, and for creative artists around the world. The acclaimed ease-of-use, advanced features, and epoch-making sonic power of the ELECTRIBE•SX are all as strong as ever. With the addition of SD card storage and new patterns to keep up with the ceaseless evolution of dance and electronic music, the ELECTRIBE•SXSD has reached a new level as "must-have" gear.

that first sentence is the first on the page. if i read that bought the gear brought it home and couldnt use the 32 gigs i would probably have returned the machine. (maybe not but still!)

Flexible, convenient SD card data storage
An SD card slot is now provided, so the pattern and song data you create on the ELECTRIBE•SXSD can be quickly saved to an SD card. Now you can easily manage your data on the ELECTRIBE•SXSD itself, without the need for an external computer! SDHC cards of up to 32GB are supported, so you can stockpile plenty of sounds. Data compatibility with earlier models is maintained, so data you created on the original ELECTRIBE•SX can be played back unaltered on the new version

no where on that page (unless i missed it somehow) does it mention the 128 info yet it mentions how awesome the new machine is that you can use the 32 gig cards two times and mentions "massive storage" a few times...

im not here to bicker but just because YOU and i know something NOW after having owned the machines doesnt mean korg isnt misleading other people. especially since the sp404SX swapped to SD cards and you can have hours of sample time saved to a single pad.

Hey if we'll be like "I am pleased cause limitations on the esx are good for my music" then stick with old gear, it is everyone's choice. Creativity is a subjective thing in this case...

I also use old gear but I need a NEW ELECTRIBE cause it will make my life so easy for many reasons:

1. I will not stay all the day in front of a computer, no mouse, no keyboard, no display, no sound card, no volume controller (I am sick of computers, I am using the computer just for arrangements in Ableton).

2. Having usb for audio and midi, having a midi sync option and having a vst editor will make you work less and easy on the computer, translating your sounds much faster for arrangements and fine tweaking.

3. Also will be ideal for my live shows, just connect a controller to it (a nanokontroller for example) and I will be relieved when I will have a gig, that is very important for me also...

4. My ideas translates very easy with the tribe, the workflow is amazing but many times I am frustrated with the small memory, with the loading times, with the sampling transfer routines, with no polyphony. I really don't understand you Korg... Sp-404 and Sp-404 SX are loading samples directly from the memory cards for years!!! KORG did you heard about industrial espionage :D DO IT!!!

And NO, the M3M is far away from a tribe as a concept and working mode... bleah... No instrument is like electribe, that it's why I want a new one more advanced, especially after 8 years from the release of the esx1 and emx1...

Ok, my personal requests for a New Elctribe are idealistic but all the things I stated in my post are technologies already implemented in other instruments from Korg or other manufacturers for years...

And yes, I will pay more on this kind of tribe comparing to the future Elektron's "cold box" Octatrack and I am sure I'll not be alone...

And I forgot to mention one feature for my ideal tribe, Korg make it with rechargeable battery also, 4 hours will be enough :)))

Wow, that looks amazing and sounds like it will be a great tool. Interested in how much it will cost.
