Record independent from the patterns

Post by Smackjack »

Hey. Ive been playing around with the app alot lately and has discovered how much cool stuff you can do with the kaoss pads. (check out http://www.soundcloud.com/dr-crush/fun- ... pads-2-wav :) The thing that bugs me tho is that you cant record kaoss pad tweaks independent from patterns. I like to put lowpass and highpass filters as prameters and make for example a long intro where the synth fades in (as in the song i linked above) and when its done its only the last part that has been recorded (if its 1 pattern looping). You can do live recording you might say, but what if i want the synth to fade out and another synth created in the drums section to fade in? And with live recording you cant correct misstakes and keep building the song after the recording is done. Again the song linked above, i would like to be able to tweak the drums after what i came up with after playing with the kaoss pads, but i cant since its live recording.

What i would like to see is recording kaoss pads independent from the patterns, and if all the knobs would work that way then there wouldnt be much that limits what you can do.

Would that be possible or is there a perfomance limit in the iPad?

Also color code patterns would be nice. If you use 3 bars for the intro and 4 for the melody i would like to mark the patterns with a discrete colorcode (a small dot in the corner or a thin border) so i can get a better overview of whats behind the patterns.

Sorry for bad english.

Hi there,

I guess the app has to have some kind of limitation or it would be just too good to be true :D

I think the key is to use the patterns to make up your basic backing or rhythm track and then 'freestyle' over the top with the Kaoss pad.

As you say, this does limit you to 'live' recordings rather than just playing back a pattern set but I guess if you got creative with 16 different patterns you could make up quite a complex backing track and then 'solo' over the top of that with the Kaoss pad

I did like your track and it was quite 'fun' sounding.
I did something similar myself a few days ago to try out the 'live' recording and jamming on the Kaoss pad.
