Kronos feedback.

Sharp,
For someone who composes at the Oasys and has no plans to use the instrument for live performances, do you think that switching to the Kronos would change the composing experience much?
Thanks.
Greg

Will ask today.Scott wrote:Sharp, I asked this in another thread, but maybe this is a better place...
The Kronos has USB-A connectors. Is there any chance this will allow direct connection of NanoPad/NanoKontrol/NanoKey? That could be very nice for live performance...
Regards
Sharp.

Thanks. If they say no, hopefully a light bulb will go off and they'll say, hey, we might be able to add that in a future update...Sharp wrote:Will ask today.Scott wrote:Sharp, I asked this in another thread, but maybe this is a better place...

Sorry, missed that one.Sharp, did you check out about questions I raised above?
It can do both.If I read the spec correctly, after loading PRELOAD.KSC you have 273 MB of leftover RAM for your stuff. Which means that seriously hinders user sampling? Or does Kronos sample directly to SSD, bypassing RAM?
No.Can user samples be streamed as well?
I asked can you have all EXs libraries available at the same time and I was told no, so the RAM is already a limitation in that regard. Let me double check again today because I asked quite a lot of questions. It's hard to remember everything so accurately. If the whole 30 GB of SSD is filled, that probably won't fit into 1 GB of RAM?
We spoke about it but I'm only in the position to say what it does now, not what it will or wont do in the future.Did Rich mention anything about upgradeability of RAM? (Would be a shame if Korg didn't allow this.)
Regards
Sharp.

Thanks for keeping us up to date Sharp.Sharp wrote:We spoke about it but I'm only in the position to say what it does now, not what it will or wont do in the future.Did Rich mention anything about upgradeability of RAM? (Would be a shame if Korg didn't allow this.)

According to the specs at the Intel site the dual Atom uses DDR2(/DDR3) for memory, so depending also on the motherboard it should be possible to use a 2 GB or even a 4 GB stick as RAM memory.
I have another question about the KRONOS as a DAW controller: can the knobs and sliders on the KRONOS be assigned to an external source, in other words, are they midi-programmable?
Thank you very much Sharp, for taking time to come here and inform us with valuable "Sina-delusion-free" information.
We appreciate it very much, especially when you could be out and eating steaks and McDonalds with min. 10liter coca cola sized cups.
Oh, and can you PLEASE take some more videos of the Kronos, your YouTube video of the rotating one showed quite good quality.
That would be fantastic!!

Akos Janca wrote:Thank you Sharp. Another question: could you get an answer from Korg why they haven't mentioned OASYS at all when introducing KRONOS? It can't be an accident.
Sharp wrote:It's quite painful to hear the questions KORG are being asked by people. Most people here have very little understanding about most things and I'm pretty amazed how KORG staff remain so professional when people ask such stupid questions.
...
Making references to an existing product that most people don't know about is a utter waste of time.

Thank you again, I'm not expecting an answer, but the reason seems to be something else.
UPDATE: OK, if OASYS is not well-known then I understand. (But still, the long presentation was aimed to experts who surely know OASYS...

Hi Sharp,, first of all thank you very much for your detailed report, seeSharp wrote:The side panels are glossy. Glossy = Finger print stains.Coming from the O, is there anything you didn't like?
lol... I hate my iPhone too for the same things, but I also love it for what it can do.

Sharp.
that you talked about the glossy side panels of kronos, I would linke to
have your feedback about the quality of materials used in these parts
May seem a minor issue, but with a view to using the machine
live is interesting to know if the materials are robust or not.
thank you very much again
I think two things would come into play there.Akos Janca wrote:UPDATE: OK, if OASYS is not well-known then I understand. (But still, the long presentation was aimed to experts who surely know OASYS...)
First, even though the dealers there presumably know OASYS, it would make sense for Korg to want to market the Kronos to them exactly the way they would like them to market the Kronos to their customers, because that's what they're going to come away with.
Second, the Oasys was very much a specialty product. I would not be surprised if most of the dealers there never even had one in their showroom. They certainly didn't sell boatloads of them. So the product probably doesn't "resonate" with them the way it does with you. And really, if you were Korg, it might not be the best thing to emphasize to their dealers, to say "Here's another version of something else that you didn't sell much of the first time."

Really, it's hard to simultaneously say "this is like nothing you've seen before" and "this is another version of something you've seen before." As I said... marketing message should be compelling, clear, consistent, concise. Emphasizing how much it's like an OASYS muddies the "game changer" message. These are the kinds of decisions marketing people have to make all the time. It's not a personal affront.
And remember, their job is not to appeal to the 3000 people or whatever who already have an OASYS (though some of them will probably buy it), their job is to try to appeal to the zillions of people out there with lesser Korgs, Yamahas, Rolands, and whatever else... OASYS doesn't mean anything to most of them.

I think I got it now Scott, thanks a lot.
Although they could continue the sentence as: "...but this time you will sell it like hot cakes!"
