M3 style Piano Roll editor.

Post by Carmen »

Will the Kronos have a Piano roll editor similar to the M3? Very valuable for doing Midi editing.

KRONOS does have lots of MIDI editing features, but it does not use the Piano Roll visual representation seen in the M3.

Thanks,

Rich - He asked "will" the Kronos have piano roll. As in a future OS upgrade. You know....Kronos XPanded? I mean why limit such a wonderful feature to the M3? Would've been awesome to see it in the Oasys, too. Ooops, did I just say Oasys? OMG. I did say Oasys! I'm so sorry.
Current Korg Lineup: Kronos 61, Oasys 76 · M3-61/RADIAS · Trinity Plus/HDR · 01/WFD · 01R/W · X3R · M3R · Wavestation EX · Wavestation SR · Triton Rack/MOSS · Z1EX · TR-Rack · Karma · D3200 · iM1 · iWavestation · iMono/Poly
Other Synths: Berhinger Deepmind 12 · iProphet · Moog Model D

I bet Rich is not yet allowed to speak about possible future plans when the board isn't yet officially available...

No, I'm sure he's not. But I'll bet the farm he wants to!

Ok, let's get down to the nitty gritty here....how many rounds of what will it take? I'll run a tab at the pub of your choice!

Thanks for your reply Richard.

The piano roll editor is a very powerful editing tool, I use it whenever I'm tweaking compositions.

I think I'd go mildly insane to have to adjust an entire tracks volume one individual velocity number at a time, versus drawing a stylus across the velocity indicators on the piano roll.

Is there, perhaps, another way to do Midi editing on the Kronos? (Say through a DAW?)

I do hope that this is a feature that will be added through software updates.

Absolutely, the USB port can directly access the free editor software, which will allow you to use KRONOS as a plug-in within DAW systems.

Will this editor / plugin work with Cubase 5 (or 6) on a Mac (OS-X 10.6.6)?

Thanks,
Lawrence

PS - I enjoyed watching your NAMM videos.

How can Korg possibly be so screwed as to not include the piano roll and other new M3 Xpanded sequencer features in the new and improved Kronos??????

Why go backwards when it comes to what is considered the central core of any hardware or software DAW.... the sequencer?????

This is indeed the main reason why I've shyed away from Korg over the last couple of years, particularly with the whole Oasys/M3 thing where they improved the sequencer in the obviously inferior M3 and left loyal Oasys users who'd paid a PREMIUM PRICE for their obviously superior instrument in the cold regarding sequencer improvements.

Will cuelists at least be available? I noticed that all the Kronos demos barely mention the sequencer or hard disk recorder! Certainly this is the area of the instrument where all the composing and recording is done and Korg should be enticing us to complete an ENTIRE song from initial idea to final burn't CD master in the one instrument called a MUSIC WORKSTATION that was originally marketed as the 'one & only instrument' you need for your music production.

Honestly I don't get why Korg have left the M3 Xpanded sequencer functions off the Kronos?????

Anyone from Korg dare to answer the above question?

Thanks again for your reply Richard.

So to clarify this; Once connected to a DAW, any changes made in the DAW environment to a Kronos based Midi file will be reflected in the Kronos Midi file directly, or, is the Midi file pulled out of the Kronos....edited in the DAW and then downloaded back to the Kronos?

Hi Carmen,

This is another one that needs to wait until we get a little closer to shipping. I appreciate your patience.

Thanks,
