monosynth sample ???

so i was trying to record a mono in to a specified key 'while' in keyboard mode but it wouldn't record the sound. and i could hear it just fine in keyboard mode even while recording but go to check the sample and it's silent,just blank. the loop mode was turned on for the most part; key 37 on, line in mono selected.
i just skimmed manual now but nothing popped out as a complete doh.

come on people!
anyway, i just read the manual again at work and may have figured it out. key 37 as an external source can not be turned on in sample mode. but i want to control my synth using the ms-1 and i want all the samples as c4 (and i may just record each key in auto next later but to save space i'll try this first).
so i'll record a 'pattern' of one key stroke in keyboard mode, go to sample mode, set threshold, trigger sampling and start 'pattern'.
tell you if it works tomorrow.

well i got it working, but not with the pattern seq. It only worked with gate mode and you must switch back to keyboard after sampling has begun.
and yeah, don't know why i couldn't figure that out before.

wish it had a mono mode.
seems easy to implement.
