Korg M1 EX

Discussion relating to all other KORG synth related products that don’t have a dedicated section. For example, OASYS PCI, M1, N Series, 01W series, T series, and more…

Bill,

Since the extra multisounds (samples, waveforms) are in there (hence multisound numbers go beyond 99), it could only be a program card that goes into the top slot of the M1 (PCM expansion is on the back - I don't know the videos you guys have referred to here and hence I don't know where the visible card was plugged, either). I can imagine that an extra card contained combis and programs so that the originals can be left untouched, but I guess you could load those extra programs into the internal memory, as well. Unfortunately I don't know whether or not and extra card was included with the EX upgrade, but having the extra sounds is what the most important would be (as you also alluded to it), program data is something one's likely to tweak, anyways.

Therefore I'd consider having multisounds without program data much more of a viable combination than the other way around. If there was a card, its content is likely available somewhere on the net and must be possible to load it into a regular M1 RAM card, if internal programs and combinations are to be preserved.

go to any patch, "edit" it, go to the first page, choose OSC1 waveform, and start scrolling. If you can scroll beyond "99 - DWGS Sine", and see waveform numbers above 99,

you've got a EX version.

theer's no other visible difference.

You have just more waveforms (and boy are they good)

There's no rom card needed for the upgrade.

A patch-combi card was available at the time, containing patches which used the new waveforms,

but if it's not there it doesn't affect the upgrade.

BTW: the card content is available for free if you go to this websites, where it says "complete library for the m1". among the sound banks available there's the card content.

Nothing special.

Synthjoe,

Styx 'n' Stones.

Mod I was recalling was 3rd party InVision+1 --- not Korgs own EX version.

hey thx for your help guys - yes the EX waveforms are definitely built in to the actual M1rex, they are present and usable in mine and i have no cards.

as for the extra programs, i agree, that stuff is all pretty easily found on various websites in sysex or midi format. so of course the first thing i did was keep the M1 stock sounds i liked, then loaded the m1rex sounds and kept the ones i liked from that set as well. no card needed, and i get the best of both program sets.

m1rex programs are still limited to a set of 100 though :( - but the RAM cards currently go for about $75 on ebay, ouch

For cheaper than that, the M1 Legacy is a nice alternative for the rest of M1 sound universe: http://www.korguser.net/shop/software
