With the Radias discontinued what's next?

I'm curious what Korg will be replacing it with if anything, any rumors or news I missed?

KRONOS has a number of synthesis engines that surpass what is possible on RADIAS. Combine them together and you do have a monster synth. I know it is workstation, but it is quite possible that we'll never see a flagship performance synthesizer of the same class as the Radas again.

I'm not entirely sure it *IS* discontinued.

I follow Korg's RSS feed for new products and you know what the last product they posted about?

This was about a week or so ago. Call me crazy but it may not be OPD yet.

Kronos is amazing, and yes has an analog engine (three of em..) that do indeed surpass the Radias.
But i have a gut feeling... the Radias will still sound better then it...
I dont know why.. I just do... Maybe its just cause I want to believe a dedicated VA will surpass that of a workstation. I plan on buying Kronos, but i will continue to use my racks...

I just got half way through the KRONOS release vid. I really like it, and am actually thinking of starting a savings plan just to buy it. I wonder if it will still be around in a couple years.

Again, true on all counts for the AL-1. For waveshaping (including clipping, drive, pickups, and lots more), including control over where they happen in the chain, look instead to the MOD-7.

That's a joke, right? The M3 was released 3 years ago and is still going strong.

No it was only slightly tongue in cheek. Over the last 6 or so years it seems every time I go for an item I find I can't get it because it has been discontinued. I like to save and have made it a quest to pay cash for things but this is the consequence. I guess.

I usually wait until a keyboard has been out for a year or so... and there is often a price drop and/or a good sale. That happened with the M3, and I was able to pick one up at Guitar Center for an amazing price.

Hi,

even if I think the KRONOS will outrage the RADIAS in many aspects, I wouldn't see it as its succesor.

KRONOS may have a lot of features but there is a segment only a Radias/R3, Virus, or even Blofeld will cover. It could be compared with something like doing water ski, you sure can do it with an air carrier but a "simple" Cigarette will give you more fun.

This is my opinion, where my skills and time go more for sound creation than music production in which case the KRONOS will surely be the best choice. But for me the RADIAS succesor hasn't been announced yet.

Well my bank account won't allow it till next year sometime but in the mean time I might go for a smaller keyboard, not sure why I would eventually want two though so I may just wait.

Wow, it's great to see the Radias-R return to Korg's Synth page. Thanks for the heads-up McHale.

I imagine that the odds are low that we'll see OS 3.0 for the Radias. The only features I need are an LFO one-shot mode and unipoloar versions of all of the LFO waves. With these, the Radias would be as complete as I would need it to be. (The third envelope isn't quite enough for me.)

Indeed. I'm sure many people must have complained as they wanted to buy them.

The one-shot LFO mode would be sweet. Although you can also specify the mod sequencers to work as one-shot.

This could work very well for me for subtle fluctuations in pitch and timbre, Timo. I think you may have just helped me to regain an Envelope and an LFO in one recommendation. I'll probably put the third MOD SEQ to work as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

You win the award for most ideas on the Wish List thread. It's likely that OS 3.0 is merely wishful thinking, but a unipolar, one-shot LFO - coupled with its existing Shape mod - would be an insanely good feature. At least now that the Radias has returned to manufacturing, the ideas have a glimmer of hope.
