Oasys User last wish - To: KORG

Post by Gusfmm »

Dear KORG,

I've been a happy loyal Korg player since the M1, having navigated the seas of progress all along - Wavestation SR, Trinity, Triton Studio, ... and Oasys.
This forum over the years has proven to be an invaluable source of information and a nice community to be part of.

The Trinity, I'd say, changed my (musical) life and sealed the passion for Korg. The Triton, reassured it. The Oasys, well, was the most fantastic concept I thought one could ever dream of. And I finally found a chance to be part of such dream, albeit not without some blood, sweat, and tears. As of today, I still enjoy dreaming, as a proud owner.

I've much enjoyed the love-hate reactions the Oasys has caused, since its actual market inception. Nature of the beast. But no doubt cost was always a huge factor behind most people's sentiments.

Then Kronos came about. And I felt very happy to see continuation, progression. I do not put blame or retain any hard-feelings about the Oasys retirement. I do believe you got to do what you got to do, specially if it is a matter of survival. I do want to see Korg well and alive for many years to come.

However, there is one thing I can't help not having mixed feelings about: MOD-7 and LAC-1 being a no-additional-cost inclusion in Kronos, yet for us Oasys owners representing an additional expense. Would it not be only fair to ask for these be made available no-cost now that Oasys is long discontinued and Kronos just released?

Join the petition if you'd like. Maybe KORG can make such last wish come true.

________ _
Rgds,
Gus.

Good luck in your quest!

I'm sure your point resonates with a lot of O owners. However, There are O owners who did buy those modules, so how do you think they would feel if they suddenly become freebies?

I bought my O with everything unlocked so the subject doesn't affect me one way or the other... (and am saying this to be clear before Danatkorg does!).

There have been previous threads about this same subject with no input from Korg - my guess is that they will never release free modules for the O.

Last update was Nov 2009 after since the Kronos was being developed. It's clear that Korg wants Kronos to be a mass-market, bundled OASYS. So charged modules simply wouldn't work for this model. There are plenty of other threads debating what happened to the O and its owners and I hope this thread doesn't go over old ground that's been beaten to death...

Whilst I adore my O and have no intention to part with it, one day it will die...  Ultimately my only route to continue using the same sounds when this happens will be the Kronos. So trying to be positive here (please note Danatkorg!), the Kronos is Korg's (indirect) way of keeping the OASYS alive for more years than its components may last...

Similar to the Oasys and Kronos situation, nothing anybody can do about it. Keyboards are terminated and blown out for a discount. Also happened to the Oasys btw, how should one feel if one paid full price? This is not uncommon. On a personal recent experience a few years ago with Kawai, paid good money for K5000 branded patch libraries, last set in stock I was told, just to see them made publicly free a few months later in electronic format.

I'm not debating, just more formally petitioning. Join if you'd like. It maybe heard.

I paid for my Oasys add-ons.

BUT I wouldn't mind at all if Korg made them free from now on, for those that still haven't bought them.

I think it would be a great gesture of good will from their side.

Well, let's see what Korg does... like Hedegaard says above, would be an appreciated gesture for those who don't have a 'complete' O and I wouldn't complain at all.

I do think there might be technical issues though as korguser.net is very much set to allocate unique keys for bought modules. Don't know how they'd get round releasing a common version (ie freebies) of the modules and spend development time on changing how korguser.net works for O owners.

Thank you for starting it (again), Gus.

I would like to join. Where is that petition, on petitiononline.com? Or is there a poll on the forum? Or I simply joined with this post already?

Best regards,
Akos

I do not have any of the paid for updates, but I would love to have them as a permanent part of my library. I would love to see KORG issue these out for free, though I would hate for hurt feelings to arise from those that did buy them. However I do feel it would be a good gesture on their part.

Glad to be part of the petition

I think this thread is a little "invisible" to the Korg staff that has the 'will' to make this change about the sounds.
I'm afraid it will fall on deaf ears, unfortunately.

BIG +1

Might help ease the sting of $5000 worth of depreciation staring me in the face. Would love a Kronos simply because it's smaller and lighter but I'd need to sell the OASYS...problem is, I doubt I'd get enough to even pay for the Kronos 61. :(

You know, for what you get for the cost, they really aren't that expensive. Since we all purchased the oasys as a open system i am sure korg will release the new patches for the oasys.

I know I am dreaming but I believed korg before open synth....

Well I just don't know I bought my O-76 new when it first came out and added all expansions whitch to me added to the value of the insturment and it should make it easier to sell on e-bay. but if they become free then my O-76 would lose valu aganest others for sale. that said I am not sure I will ever sell it as one day it will be a collectors item.

Yes Korg please show some style and provide OASYS owners with all the goodies - no more charging extra for salsa with my $$$ burrito.

I purchased my OASYS about a year after they came out, and though I got a great deal due to a good business relationship I swore I would never spend another dollar on the O after coming to terms with the sequencer. In a way though I have spent more by purchasing a Mac and Mbox Pro with Pro-Tools LE a few months ago, just so I could get to where I thought I had already arrived when I bought the O.

I hope that the new DAW will help me realize the full potential of a great, great sounding performance machine, and my own muse. It would be wonderful to have a few more colors in my paint box - especially MOD-7 and Brass, but for now my brain is pretty full with plug-ins, midi interfaces, short-cut keys, and a whole lotta new icons to memorize. Stuff I had hoped to avoid. But looking ahead to the future on all fronts and with my OASYS. Wish me luck on the Pro-Tools learning curve.

I understand what you're saying, and don't mean this to be a diatribe, but the reality is that this should be the least of anybody's concerns, as the biggest lost in the Oasys "re-marketability" simply was the announcement of Kronos - which includes these libraries free of any addtl' cost.
