Audio Out issues

Hello Korg people,

I recently got a Korg Pa 1X Pro. The sound from the headphone out is perfect, but when I use the audio outs from the back panel going into a keyboard amp or through a mixer the sound is muddy with the high frequencies dampened.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what why this might be?

Firstly try the audio outs with different cables and connected to a different device (e.g. a Hi-Fi system) - this will hopefully eliminate the keyboard and cables.

Thanks for the prompt response. I have tried different cables, amps and mixers, same dull sound. I thought it might hae ben some sort of processing settings on the main outs like eq or compression etc but I couldn't find any info in the manual to change this.

Sounds like there is a blanket over the speaker while the headphone out is as clear as a bell.

I think I would get it checked out by a Korg service guy - that doesn't sound good to me.

Did you try taking a cable from the headphones to the amp? If you get a good clear headphone sound this may be a temporary solution.

Hello,
I have the same problem with the sounds that i play on a PA system, the sound would time to time be damped specially higher frequencies. I dont have a solution for it yet but im working on it. It only happens when im connected to a PA system other thank that the sounds sound great with earphones. You can try using 2 cables for output and see if that helps. Can any one help to solve my issue i would strongly appreciated. Or maybe its the internal battery? if it has one, not sure.

Try turning off the mic input on the back. There's a simple on/off switch. I was getting some weird sounds too and that fixed it.

If you are using a mono amp it will never sound quite the same as stereo headphones. The two channels get summed to one and often there is phase cancellation causing some sounds to be muffled. When you plug just one jack into L/Mono out the channels are summed automatically. You get the same result if you plug L + R into a mono amp.
Just a possible explanation for the difference you are hearing.

You might notice that in your bedroom at 12 am with no noise but I use the Korg once or twice a month at a casino using a big 800 watt mono pa going through a pair of JBL 15's with horns. Just using the L/Mono output sounds fantastic. The only thing I miss from my smaller stereo rig is the leslie effect for organ and the chorus/tremolo on some of the EP's. Those certainly sound fuller in stereo but the effect is still there in mono just not as pronounced. But as far as high freq's are concerned they are all there in mono, in fact I have to eq the highs down a bit because cymbals, the snare and some guitar parts really snap through those JBL's.

Thank you all for your quick respond, i haven't tried to turn off the mic on the keyboard but i will try. Also connecting two output cables worked for me, i dont get that muddy sound anymore. Can any one help me with one more thing, im trying to adjust the EQ on the drums and the sounds that i perform with and i would like to adjust the EQ on each sound (e.g. Piano, Stings, and Drums) can anyone help, Thank you all.

Unfortunately the pa1x doesn't have real EQ settings. You need to use your amps EQ. You can use the FX to sort of adjust it (eg 7 band EQ) but you tend to need the existing FXs on the sounds otherwise they just dont sound right so its not worth giving up an effect to use the FX EQ. (You only get a maximum of 2 effects and you almost always need a reverb effect for every sound only giving you one to play with).
A kind of work around is to adjust the Cutoff in Sound Mode if for instance you wanted to create your own piano that was say a bit brighter and save it as a user sound.
So you go to Sound Mode, adjust the Cutoff and use the dropdown menu to save it to a User Sound bank.
