how to use discreet fx in m1 combi mode?

Discussion relating to all other KORG synth related products that don’t have a dedicated section. For example, OASYS PCI, M1, N Series, 01W series, T series, and more…

how to use discreet fx in m1 combi mode?

Post by rawrooo »

i feel like what im doing should work, but it's doesnt

ive got a combi with 2 programs. synthbass1 in slot 1 and universe in slot 2. i want to use chorus on the synthbass only, and distortion on universe only.

also, id like to only be using 2 outputs if possible (actually 1 would be perfect but i dont think it would work that way without a Y cable)

so i panned universe to A and set fx1 to distortion. and i panned synthbass to B and set fx2 to chorus. effect placement is set to parallel with P3 and P4 set to off.

the output has uneffected synthbass but WITH distortion on universe. shouldnt i be hear chorus'ed synthbass only and distortion on universe only? what am i missing?

thanks!!

What synth, please?

---------------------

Generally speaking, discreet effects are done in the insert effects section, with overall effects being done at the master FX section.

You have to do a couple of different steps to make the inserts work.

First, you have to route the instrument to a particular effects block -- there may be from 2 or three up to 8 or more depending on the synth model.

Once you've routed or sent the instrument signal to the block, you decide what effect goes in the block (pitch, reverb, distortion, EQ, etc.) and you have to activate it (tick "on"). When you do you will see options for sending that individual signal on to the master effects.

You can send instruments that don't need insert FX directly to the master, you can send them to insert only with no master, or you can run them with no effects at all.

-----------

The other thing that you need to look at is whether effects are "chained" together (as if you were running stomp boxes in series for guitar).

OK, having looked over the manual - M1 is a two FX unit. It can be A only, B only, A and B (parallel) or A+B chained (Serial).

There is essentially no insert, just two master FX.

To have separate FX like you want you'll need to be in serial mode -- this is found on the "effects placement" parameter.

In this manual...

...on page 38.

Hope that puts you on track.

hey Bill, thx for the link - it's actually parallel not serial, but whatever - the link to the manual helped, i got the necessary info from there.

i think the manual ive been using isnt the real m1 manual, but maybe an addendum which had none of this info whatsoever. so yeah, thanks i totally got it now!
