iElectribe: the mysterious power of CROSS

Post by dswo »

Today at lunch I finished reading the iElectribe manual. In particular, I wanted to understand what the mysterious CROSS button does. Here is what the manual says:
By using the audio generated by SYNTH2 to apply high-speed modulation to the frequency (pitch) of the SYNTH1 oscillator, you can create sounds that have a complex overtone structure. To edit the cross modulation sound, you must first create a rhythm pattern for SYNTH1 and SYNTH2, and edit the sound while the pattern plays back.

Combinations other than SYNTH1 and SYNTH2 cannot be used. In some cases, the timing of when SYNTH1 and SYNTH2 sound may affect the tonal character or the volume.
Translation: SYNTH2 can tweak the pitch of SYNTH1. To my knowledge, I haven't seen an example of this, but it sounds very powerful.

Wow! I can remember when I got my shiney new ESX I spent the first day with it in my lap while I read the manual from cover to cover. I failed entirely to read the manual for the iElectribe and that little tip is a gem I completely over-looked! Thanks for drawing my attention to that, going to go FM something crazy now!
