I'm trying to create the funky talking lead synth in this song- and i've failed each time, i think i will probably have to use the modulation matrix to create this sound accurately, but it seems possible

Try sync modulation or modulating a resonant HPF or LPF then applying distortion.

Try them. I'm nowhere near a synth, so I personally can't. They are simply what it sounds like the synth is made of to my ear.Morshu wrote:Are you sure thats all?

LFO to modulate pitch? Why would you need that for this patch?Morshu wrote:I tried but I wasn't sure what kind of modulation to use on it- but i got a little closer- Should i use the modulator to modulate pitch-cutoff-etc? if so which one? I've been using the LFOs to modulate pitch and I have a slow vibrato.
Anyways, start with, say, a saw as OSC1, maybe apply the in-built unison to make it bigger (no detune, no phase changing)
The first thing I would try would be adding in OSC2 as a saw, and syncing it. Set LFO1 to a triangle at ~.50 rate, the patch LFO1 to OSC2 tune. This way, whenever you hit a note the sync will be slightly different and continually changing, giving the synth a vocal characteristic. Experiment with different base tunings for OSC2.
The second thing I would try is distortion over a modulated, resonant filter. Apply either a very resonant HPF or LPF (~90 resonance). For an LPF, put the cutoff at midway (63) and for a HPF, keep it at 0-10. Then, again take a triangle LFO at ~.50 rate and modulate the filter's cutoff; finally, apply some sort of distortion; for example, post-filter drive or hardclip in the waveshaping section. This willl also give the synth a vocal characteristic.
Try combining sync, LPF, HPF etc.

I have tried what you said and i think i got pretty close- here is the new pack of sounds- anmlrts is the patch
oh and Mathz is pretty close as well- but its supposed to be a different sound- you'll notice the difference
