KP3 Editor won't transmit samples via USB

Post by supermel74 »

Doing everything correctly but I keep getting this error message.

I even tried loading in the official Korg demo samples but those won't load either so it's not a case of improper sample format.

It works for everyone else. So the problem is that saying that you're doing everything correctly doesn't add any additional information to help you diagnose the problem you're having.

You can start with the basics. What version of the editor? What OS and version? Running native on the OS or in a Virtual Machine? Have you tried running the editor on another computer? The editor can normally load and play samples without having the KP3 hooked up, so does it work when disconnected? Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the editor? There's a good possibility that there's some problem the editor is having with reading data from the filesystem. Have you updated all the sound drivers? How about the ATA/SATA drivers? Have you run the Check Disk utility on the drive to check and fix any errors on it?

The editor plays samples, it just won't transmit them to the KP3. As far as saying that I've done everything correctly, I mean that I've done everything correctly according to the instruction manual.

Editor version 1.0

I'll install the latest OS and Editor software and see what happens. Thanks for the tips.

Yes, that's an old version of the editor. There are updates available for the KP3 OS and the USB-midi drivers too.

In general, the CD/DVD media that comes with any hardware should be kept for historical reference, not actually used. There's almost always more recent files you should download from the vendor and use instead of the original media. That will save you from the hassle of dealing with problems on the old software that have been solved in more recent versions. Usually the media in the box becomes outdated while in the supply chain before you buy it.

I updated the Editor and the OS. How do I check to see if the OS update was successful? I'm also getting this error now too even though I have installed the latest usb/midi drivers already

You need to follow the directions in the online manual for the USB-midi driver. Installing the software does not install the KP3 as a device. That needs to be done separately.

See the section that says:

** Installing the KORG USB-MIDI Driver using a tool

2. Execute EzSetup.exe (start menu > All Programs > KORG > KORG USB-MIDI Driver Tools > Install KORG USB-MIDI Device

If that doesn't work, then see the section that tells how to uninstall any old midi drivers that aren't working by:

**Uninstalling the KORG USB-MIDI Driver using a tool

1. Execute UnInstDrv.exe (start menu > All Programs > KORG > KORG USB-MIDI Driver Tools > Uninstall KORG USB-MIDI Device

Then redo the first step above to install the driver for the KP3 again.

Run the Uninstall Utility to see what midi drivers are already loaded. Press the Option... button and then Uncheck the "Delete KORG MIDI Device" only, then you can remove any old, bad, or unused midi drivers to clear a slot for the KP3. Only 10 midi devices slots are available and they often get filled with old drivers. Then run the Install utility to have the KP3 use the empty slot. Once the KP3 driver is installed, it should show up on the list if you press the "Device List..." button in the Korg USB-MIDI driver control panel. If the KP3 doesn't show up in that list, then the KP3 editor won't see it.

Finally got it. Thanks a lot xmlguy. How can I be sure that the OS update worked though?

Glad you got it going! If you run the updater again it should show the version (2.0.0) that's installed. Be sure to look at the readme file because the 2.0 OS has added several important functions to sync loops.

KP3 Editor TRANSMIT button error msg

Post by sasanya »

Hey guys,

I just bought a kp3 and at the moment I don't have an sd card so my first try was to upload a sample into the kp3 editor and transmit it to the kp3 via the usb cable.

When I hit TRANSMIT the first msg I get is :

This operation will overwrite Sample Data on KP3. Continue?

Do I continue or is that gonna overwrite something valuable? Can someone please help me! What do I do?

Thanksss![/img]

The samples are numbered from 00 to 99. Simply name it the highest existing number plus one, and a new saved sample is created. Personally, I prefer managing the samples using the normal data manager and drag and drop. You have all samples at one sight, and it is very easy.

So do I hit continue and then it give the sample a number? Or is that done somewhere in the kp3 editor before I transmit?

What do you mean by the 'normal data manager'? You mean something that's not the KP3 Editor?

Also, I just bought the KP3 but from reading, I noticed ppl have updated to KP3 Editor v2 as well as I saw a KP3 OS update from their uk site 2007 - Wouldn't I naturally have the latest versions?
