kp3 metronome
Is there a metronome in kp3?
Sorry if this is a silly question, but I'm new to kaoss, and could not find a "search forum" function here....
I'm trying out the sampler part of kp3 and need it to generate some kind of metronome to start layering over.

thanks didjeko for your reply.
This is dissapointing. I'm using the kp3 onstage without DAW. thought I'd start with sampling the band's percussionist or another instrument but for that I'll need some sort of beat for him to be in sync. Guess I'll need to start with the built in drums. Or do you have another idea for me?

-Sample a simple bassloop with the first drumset (drn.1) into a bank
-Let it run and select a HPF (Flt.2) and select a spot where the bassdrum starts to click
-resample
Presto: metronome.
you could vary it any way you want of course, even select a different filter value for the first beat so you can have a typical 1..2..3..4..1..2..3..4..

Thanks Control: your suggestion sounds interesting but I'm afraid I don't understand:
1) drum sound - from what I saw, the built in drm sounds are loops. not one shot so where can I find this hi hat you mention?
2)is there a gate effect? how can I set numeric values to the effect? as I understand it the effect control is by the touchpad. no?
Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions. I don't really understand this exciting piece of gear yet....

1) Just sample any 4/4 beat, and resample it using some filter to get a clicking noise. Worked for me.Ittai wrote:Thanks Control: your suggestion sounds interesting but I'm afraid I don't understand:

I just realized you may be talking about the Kaossilator (KO-1) and not the Kaossilator Pro.Ittai wrote:Thanks Control: your suggestion sounds interesting but I'm afraid I don't understand:

If this is the case, i don't think my solution will work for you

*** EDIT again.. wow i can't read apparently. You are talking about the KP3

In this case, my method for sure will not work!
I think the easiest method for you *if you are connected to a pc* is to just sample a metronome, or do one of the other above mentioned solutions

The KP3 has drum patterns. You can record the pattern using the Shift-Sample [RESAMPLE] function. The drum pattern can be as simple as a click, a closed high hat tap, or whatever simple pattern you want.
It's best to record this in advance, then examine the loop sample waveform in the editor software to be sure that the first beat starts right at the front of the wave without any dead spaces. That way it will be easier to sync with any other loops that also start right on the first beat.

kpro as master clock
Hi, I just got my KPro. love it. immediately realized that it didn't have the quantization ability that I expected. After reading thru the forums here, I understand better why since it is an audio looper and not a midi-sequencer. But still, if I were able to use this thing to effectively play live with other musicians, it be so much more useful to me.
My issue is using it with a drummer. To do this well, my experience is that the drummer needs to be on a master click (important that only he/she hears it thru headphones or something). So it seems like one option would be to have a metronome going to drummer, sending midi-clock to KPro (understanding that triggering the banks would require precision, I'm okay with that). But it sounds like this will really only set the BPM and if the KPro clock is off by a little with the metronome clock, the looped audio could get out of sync with the metronome quickly.
I read the suggestion in this thread about making Bank A basically an audio click track. cool idea, the problem is, there's no way to send this to the drummer only. I don't want a click track playing thru the mains.... There has to be some solution. I was wondering, Is it possible to have the KPro send Midi messages on each beat? for example have beat 1 send some midi message, beat 2 send another, beat 3 another, etc... This way I could use the KPro as the master clock, have it send a midi message on each beat that some other device going to the drummer can use to produce click sounds. possible? better solution? The key hear is to give the drummer (and drummer only) a click that is going to be dead on with the KPro's beats.
Thanks in advance, this is my first synth and I love the freshness of it.
EDIT:
is it possible to just get a metronome that will have the same BPM calculations as the KPro. would it be guaranteed that say, a Korg metronome phrase will last the same number of seconds as the KPro's phrase at the same bpm?

thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't seem possible for a mixer to mix out the click track from a single stereo line. But, in experimenting with sending the KPro's midi-clock to Ableton live, I'm finding that once a loop is started on the KPro, it stays in sync with live's metronome, which is very good.
Here is what would make my day. Can I get Loop Bank A button to send a Start while in normal mode? I can do it in Ext. Ctrl mode, but that doesn't help me. If I could, I could ensure the drummer's click starts at the same exact time as the first Loop Bank started! It doesn't seem like I can though, I can only pick note values in CC MAP for the Bank buttons....
