[quote="iixorbiusii"]What about 'CASIO' !!!
My first synth was a 49 full sized keys Casio CZ1000. Followed soon after with a Yamaha 61 full sized keys DX11 (keyboard version of the TX81Z 4 op FM synth rack) and a Yamaha 61 mini keys PSS680 which had 100 preset FM synth sounds and 100 rhythms. The PSS680 also had memory for 5 edited FM synth sounds and one edited drum track. It looked cool because it had 12 blue drum pads on the front edge of the keyboard.
I soon got rid of the CZ1000 because I couldn't get my edited sounds saved to my PC. I later got a Casio CZ1 which has some basic librarian support. and a 5 octave keyboard.
One strange thing is that the DX11 keyboard was released a year after the TX81Z rack version. Usually the keyboard comes first and the rack later.
I replaced the DX11 with the TX81Z rack synth which I still have.

My keyboard history, somewhat in order, I wish I still had them all.

You get synths as birthday presents? (meant as joke; didn't actually count them)JPWC wrote:My keyboard history, somewhat in order, I wish I still had them all.

I'm freakin' out here.
I'm mean I really don't understand it, man.
The manufacturer of my first synth just doesn't seem to be listed.
My sweeite is in tears because I'm so upset.
Okay, I guess I better enlighten everyone before I become so lost, dazed, and confused, I start to type gibberish.
My first synth is, and I say 'is' because I still have it, ...may I have a well played, non-sequenced, drum roll please:
the mighty **Syntorchestra** by Farfisa.
(yes, and that's exactly how it is spelled).
It has nine mono and four poly sounds.
There are Pitch, Portamento, Envelope, Vibrato, and Brilliance, faders.
It also has delay that can be used on both the mono and poly sounds.
It's easy to make things that go Wah and you can really make some unique sounds with it.
Mine is only partially functioning right now.
It was 1979 and I was in my late teens when bought it used along with a Wurly - the pair for $200.
Though the Wurly departed long ago, I don't think I'll ever sell my Syntorchestra and someday hope to get it back to 100%, at which time I will sample it into my Oasys 88.
In case you think it's cheating to call it a synth, then I guess my first 'real' synth is my Korg 01/Wfd (which I also still have and use regularly after 18 years).
Fun topic. I'd like to vote. Any chance of adding Farfisa to the list? If not, will call it a Korg, which is cool, too.
Peace, Love, Groovy On the Outro,
David -

Hermanmusic .You are rather bonkers . Which I approve of . Bonkers is good.
You can only put 9 Choices and I must admit farfisa wasn't in my thinking and I apologise whole heartedly. I should have left fairlight off, having said that it would have been fascinating to chat to someone who had one. They were so expensive !
My first keyboard was a valve lowrey organ. It was like a nuclear power station in the back of that thing. I was only 8 awe.
But arp odyssey was my first synth. Duophonic and a portamento slider (happy days)
Thanks to everybody for their contributions. Really.

Yup. That's it. And so, this confirms it. They did make more than one! Cool.Synthoid wrote:One of these?hermanmusic wrote:My first synth is, and I say 'is' because I still have it, ...may I have a well played, non-sequenced, drum roll please:

I voted Korg, because I was thinking about the Classic Triton Pro X that I purchased in 2000 brand new, but I forgot about the Roland JW-50 workstation that my parents purchased for me about 5 years before that.

This looks really old lol ... remembers me of my Farfisa Organ ... I thought Farfisa only made keyboards and organs.

Mine was a Korg Poly-800 I grabbed from rec.music.makers.synth in 1995 for $50. I remember thinking it was a steal at the time and I kind of wish I hadn't sold it except that I really need the space. The thing weighed all of 2 pounds soaking wet!jeebustrain wrote:my first was a MicroMoog (still have it) that I found at a garage sale for $25. This was 1995-ish - back hardly anyone still gave a crap about analog synths.
I didn't know anything about synths then and didn't even have a concept of what monophonic was. After that came a Yamaha PSR-320 that I used for piano class. A little later came a Korg N5.

I wasn't a huge fan of the stair-stepping LFOs in the thing but the joystick-style mod/pitch controller blew my mind at the time (and I loved the splattery LFO->VCF modulation at high resonance). I do kind of miss the softly pulsating 7-segment LED's... Thank goodness the Kronos has the joystick and those nice splattery LFO->VCF mods (and LFO stair-stepping, if you want it!)
