Kronos Tear Down Photos Needed

Post by danmusician »

Hello All,

Can anyone point me to photos of the Kronos opened up? I remember seeing some either in a thread about adding RAM or about keybed quality. Every search I've tried has yielded too many results. I skimmed through them but couldn't find them.

I'd like to see the treble end of the keyboard without the end cap. I'm trying to determine what all is bent on my 73 from the accident. Working with the insurance adjuster on whether we repair or replace.

Specifically, is there a metal frame along the edge of the keyboard that is bent? There's a piece under the plastic end cap that is bent in.

Thanks!

Dan

REPLACE:

The top, bottom, and keybed alone is quite a bit of money. Once you factor in the potential things that are damaged, you're over the cost of a new keyboard.

Since warranty is no longer an issue, tear it open...
Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha).

Try to get it replaced under insurance, but also try not to let them take the damaged Kronos away as part of the deal.. Maybe offer them a few hundred $ to keep hold of it - from what I can see, the damage looks light enough for most parts to be parted out on Ebay - or if it still works, for you to use as a spare.
One to chuck around and one to look after

iix.
CURRENT GEAR: A yellowing Casio PT-80, 4 leaking batteries and some broken headphones.
WISHLIST: A PSU and some different headphones.

Obviously, I would like to have a new keyboard. But if it's repairable...

I don't want to tear it open just yet. I don't want to be able to be accused of causing more damage taking it apart.

I did power it up for the first time last evening, it plays and seems to be fully operable, except of course for the upper 5th or so keys. One or two don't appear to be bent, but are being rubbed by the keys next to them that are pushed out of alignment. There were a few loose parts rattling inside, probably plastic tabs that broke off.

How is the end cap held in place? The screws along the bottom right side? Do those screws hold anything else in place?

Dan, I can't see how it's a good idea for you to go down this path with an insurance adjuster, without having Korg Service involved. They are the people whose opinions will count the most, in the end.

Very true. I've been making contact through my dealer.
