DigiHarp voice issue, please help!
The DigiHarp voice on my R3 is suddenly sounding very strange in the highest (natural) octave only... each note sounds with a noticeable delay, and the sound itself is scattered, almost clipped, and echos/trails. The sound is normal in the first two octaves. This is without any editing. This happened once before at a live show, and I attributed it to a faulty monitor as the issue subsequently disappeared.
I have performed the shift+7 shift+8 factory reset which has not changed anything, and I am not familiar enough with it to know where to start troubleshooting next.
I have another show on Friday so any help you can lend is much appreciated!

Que Morshu recommending you buy a TB303 or DX7 to use as a substitute during the gig...
Sorry man I don't know what could cause this. It sounds serious. But as it is still Monday now I would recommend at least dropping a line to Korg support for your country. Is your synth still under warranty?
In an effort to further isolate the problem; have you tried playing the patch from an external (midi) keyboard? Is it the same? Does it still happen if you copy the patch to a different location? How about when you start editing the patch (changing the oscillator waveform for instamce)? Maybe you can find something that works at least to survive the gig that way, until there's time for a real proper fix.

Can't really say much without hearing a recording or at least a better description of the precise problem.

So that exact octave problem seems to have corrected itself (not reassuring), BUT now this same tone (DigiHarp) randomly switches timbers while I play, every once in a while, without any action on my part. From a bell sound to a piano sound.
This sounds like a hardware issue right?
Still have not tired w/ a MIDI.
Again, thanks so much for your help. I am looking up DX7s as we speak.

That bit about the DX7 was actually a joke since Morshu tends to make ridiculous recommendments.
Sorry for the confusion.
The DX7 has good synth bells and is actually a powerful synth but in a very specific way. It is not at all comparable to something like the R3 or Radias. It doesn't do subtractive synthesis (it doesn't have analog-type lowpass filters), has no real time knobs or sliders for control, and has no built in fx (like reverb, chorus, delay etc) at all. It's very dated, having been built half-way through the eighties.
It would be somewhat cool as an addition to a studio with a lot of gear already (although since the synthesis type is entirely digital a good argument can be made for a software alternative), but definitely not as a good replacement for the R3 or Radias, if you're expecting comparable functionality or sounds.

The DX7 is a terrible choice to replace the R3. It's not even the same kind of synth architecture. It would be like suggesting a moped to replace a passenger van because "it'll get the job done," even though it's one of the worst possible choices.Morshu wrote:Even though i admit its a little funny, i wasn't intending that as a joke, he needs something that he can use to replace his r3 quick and while the dx7 may be limited, it is capable of what he wants, although it will sound a bit different, it'll get the job done.
The best replacement for an R3 would be an R3, followed by a Radias, followed by an MKXL, followed by a Microkorg/MS2000. At least these share similar synth architectures.
I don't think that it's a coincidence that Morshu is an anagram of humors. I think we're just about fed up with you enough to bring out the ban hammer. So you better STFU when it comes to making stupid recommendations that require others to correct.

No, he's saying that the DX7 doesn't work the same was as the R3.

You don't have a DX7, you don't own one, nor have you ever programmed one. All you've probably done is watch youtube videos on it. I was programming the DX7 within a year of its release. You can barely program your VA synth without getting stumped on simple patches like a total noob. I know that you have no clue how to program a DX7.Morshu wrote:You sir, are a hater. Seriously, don't get a DX7 as a replacement. I'm sorry I gave Morshu the idea to recommend it. I thought it so obviously ridiculous even he would see, but since he's just trolling, I should've known better than to feed him.
I'm still interested to hear if your problem is isolated to that one patch. Do you hear any odd stuff in other patches too? What happens if you copy it to a different patch slot? (perhaps it's a faulty memory thing?)
Possibly it's a controller flipping out. In that case not only should you be able to hear something on at least a few other patches, but you could also probably disable its effects in the patches you need to survive the gig.

i am only stumped on particular patches that i hear alot, as i can never get the exact sound. I always get close however. I suppose i may be a perfectionist?
I posted a mau5pluck topic and even after getting his r3p file, I later discovered that it wasn't correct, so I made a new one and another one, and now I got pretty close, but it just never clicks with me, I've used the Virus however, and been able to get practically a perfect version of it... Idk why that is. Maybe its my speakers. I have a pretty strange setup, although i do have a pretty good subwoofer.
DX7 is the best, dont listen to them.
