got to admit, at 1500 odd pages of "tree-ware" isn't very appealing.

Serves you right for not waiting for the "Official English Release" with the blessings from demi-God Rich. Your second mistake was using paper made exclusively from Amazon Forest :)

Having it "onboard" will be very nice because from what I have seen so far, there's "a lot" of stuff in the manuals, guides, quick starts, etc.... I remember the little one-ring binder of flash cards for the Korg M1's user reference. Can you imagine what that'd look like for the Kronos??? The ring itself would be 12" diameter (30.48 cm for all you metric-ulators out there).
Kurzweil K2500 (stolen), Korg Z1 18-voice (stolen), Yamaha P250, Novation Nova, Korg Wavedrum, Korg Kronos 61 (it's here!), as many free VST's as I can find :)

Manuals

Post by ScottB601 »

I've gone through some of it. To ME it looks like the Voice Name List is identical to E1, as is the Quick Start Guide. The E2 Operations Guide is different and the E2 Parameter Guide is different. Looks like mostly reorganization and clarifications to me. I'm not saying I'm absolutely right, but I did spend a few hours going back and forth between the manuals.

Off to FedEx to REprint the Operations Guide E2 and the Parameter Guide E2 split into four separate books. . . :?

Thought I'd give the heads up, but I got manuals at www.KronosPlay.com.

Got all of them: http://www.kronosplay.com/products-page ... ollection/ as it saved BIG TIME on shipping and printing

Cost me less that what ScottB601 paid, I think about £150 to little old Ireland.

Re Treeware- LOL. At least paper burns and is renewable. Gotta laugh at the manufacturers pulling the "green' line when they don't put in the manuals, but instead give a CD that is guaranteed to last at least twenty lifetimes in some landfill.

Only problem I'm having is reading them- all 2000 pages :P

Last board I had was a triton Extreme, so although the curve isn't so deep, I find myself going back over everything in case I miss some small detail.

Any news of the editor out yet?

No news about the editor.

There has been a lot of discussion about printing vs. e-reading. 2000 pages is a lot to print, and I can't believe anyone is reading all those 2000 pages. Also when a new OS update is available, you can start again (or do a diff).

What's all this about version 2? I got version 4 manuals with my 1.5 update - Operation and Parameter Guides. Printed them off at home. Lot cheaper than Kinko's

There is no version 2, but some have printed 1.0.4 and probably 1.5 will also not be the last OS.

I have the manuals in my iPad. This has several advantages:
1) less weight than printed versions, and more portable
2) easier to update
3) easier to read, especially in low-light conditions
4) and the #1 advantage -- they're searchable

Especially the 4th is very nice ... I use a computer since my Kronos is normally next to my computer (or I am rehearsing but then I don't need the manual).

Michel

I was talking about the manual version, not the OS version.

Printed manuals

Post by ScottB601 »

I've taken to printing them out myself and then having them bound at Kinko's. I did this for my Virus TI2 61 key user manual yesterday and they charged me $6 to wire bind it with vinyl covers. They let me wait while they did it too. Sending them pdf files and having them do it gives pristine copies, but it is expensive. I like the ipad idea a LOT. Maybe I'll finally buy one. By the time the manuals are printed and reprinted it's going to run into some serious cash.

I have an advantage there. I have one of those professional comb binders. That model was being discontinued so they were selling them off for 25 bucks instead of the usual $200. There were five in the store and they all went in half an hour. Surprise!.

Re: 'Version 2'

There are a few differences between the pdf manuals I got with 1.0.4 and the ones included in the 1.5.0 update.

There's a new section on connecting recognised Korg controllers (PadKontrol Kontrol49, Nanopads, MicroKontrol) and a small bit about the extra user banks.
Kronos 61 & KK KARMA / Triton Ex c/w MOSS and TR KARMA / MS2000 / Radias / Kaossilator Pro & Kaossilator / Korg Kontrol 49 / Nanopad / Novation Nova / Waldorf Blofeld

Line 6 Flextone XL / Line 6 POD XT / Roland V Bass / Ampeg Portabass & Cab / Assorted Guitars (no whammy bar) ... and a Fender Champ ...
