Korg M1 buttons
Hello all, my M1 is getting rather difficult to use as the buttons are failing on me now. Can anyone guide me on what buttons they are for replacment and is there any step by step guides for doing this please.
many thanks.

I had the same type of problem with one of my boards and here is what helped. DeoxIt D5 rejuvenate and lubricate. Got it at the music store. It's safe on electronic connections and plastic. It cames in a spray can with a little straw for spraying. Try it on one button first and only apply alittle. I remember a commercial from the 70's for a hair product and their tag line said, "Just a little dab will do it!" Spray and then "work" the button several times.
Hope this helps.

Forget the lube!
Try ordering a set of these from Digikey:
www.digikey.ca
Digikey Part Number: P8016S-ND
They have a *slighly* harder force rating than factory, but I prefered it that way. You can get them in a lighter (lower) gf rating.
The Panasonic part number is: EVQ-PBC09K

Keep in mind...
Keep in mind, these are the correct parts if you know (or if you can) resolder the switchesl.
Please... PLEASE leave this to someone who is an good solderer.

Sorry to flood.
I just remembered, I had ordered the ones with the ground leg...
Ignore that part number above.
I'll get the right one.

Warning, do not spray anything into the keyboard, the buttons wear out over time and nothing can stop it. The switches on the control panel need to be removed and replaced. If you can solder it is fairly easy but you do need to completely strip down the keyboard.
I do keyboard restoration if you would like to have your keyboard back in top condition .

Yeah, you need to take the whole thing apart before spraying. Don't do it from the front panel, as swithes are buried deep beneath the buttons, so spraying from the outside will not do any good. Cleaning with a spray might help sometimes, but indeed the best is to replace those switches, if you can.shirreff wrote:Warning, do not spray anything into the keyboard...
I really can't stress how bad it is to spray the boards, it can damage the board or cause electric shock. The switches are moving parts and they wear out, all spray will do is add a small residue that will evaporate and you will be back to square one.

Don't spray the switches - it's a waste of time. Just replace them with new ones. It's an easy enough job (if you are handy with a soldering iron and a screw driver, as pointed out by other posters). I recently replaced all switches in a friend's M1 and in my T3 (this one for the second time in 25 years or so...). The only problem with the M1 job was a screw that lodged itself into the keyboard mechanics ant took over half an hour to extract!...
Good luck!

Re: Keep in mind...
I have a related question (about opening up a Korg) which no one has been able to answer yet. Does the value dial (wheel) connect to the pot rotary encoder?gbestwick wrote:Keep in mind, these are the correct parts if you know (or if you can) resolder the switchesl.
