K-Sounds Yamaha C7, anyone tried it out yet?

Post by macroenie »

On the Korg website (Support&Downloads -> Soundware) a link to K-Sounds Yamaha C7 sample is provided

http://www.ksounds.com/html/signature_p ... oasys.html

With the lovely German Grand already inside the Kronos I wonder if this relatively small sized C7 sample would be something Kronos owners would consider to buy. Would it be any good compared to the German Grand or are we now spoiled by this massive samples Korg has provided us with?

I also think I remember having read something about Korg sampling another piano that will come available to Kronos but I do not recall the details. Does anyone have that still clear in their minds and wants to refresh mine

on the Korg website...figures
Thanks!

I bought the KRS-03 yesterday, I still have to explore all its capabilities but I would have liked more than the three songs it provides.
So is it really worth $49....maybe not.

What are your thoughts regarding the C7 sample, if you don't mind giving a review? Do you prefer the German/Japanese over the C7? I have been going back and forth regarding purchase of this sample set along with organimation. :?

I've noticed that the K-Sounds Signature piano offers "True sampled “damper pedal” sympathetic string resonance". This is something that's not offered in the Kronos pianos and there was a lot of talk about in another thread.
Latest Set Up: Kronos 61, Casio Privia, Korg TR61, EoWave Ribbon, Roli Rise 48, TEC Breath Controller, StudioLogic MP-117 Bass Pedals, Moog Theremini.
Past Instruments of Construction: Hammond A100 w/Leslie 760, Korg R3, Roland AxSynth, Korg Poly61, Korg M1, Univox MaxiKorg, Korg MS2000, (2) Moog Concertmate MG1, (2) Hammond X5, Rhodes Mark I & 2, Farfisa Compact, Yamaha S08, Casio SK1, Strymon Mobius, Custom Bass Pedals, Burns B3 Theremin.

I have the Motif XS version. It's a larger sample set than that offered for Kronos and OASYS (495MB), and I think it's the best piano available for Motif XS... I have all of the pianos on offer at Motifator.

You can listen to a good set of demos here:

From listening to the demos I don't think the K-sounds piano can compare with the Kronos pianos.

It has quite a "light" piano sound, without much depth, and the attack phase even reminds me a bit of the CP70. Maybe it sits well in a mix, but it does not sound as rich and deteiled as the Kronos grands IMHO.
Kronos 73 - Moog Voyager RME - Moog LP TE - Behringer Model D - Prophet 6 - Roland Jupiter Xm - Rhodes Stage 73 Mk I - Elektron Analog Rytm MkII - Roland TR-6s - Cubase 12 Pro + Groove Agent 5

Kronos pianos have damper sympathetic resonance... They don't do key sympathetic resonance.

My opinion: K sound is brighter than Kronos's piano...different character, but C7 is thinner on high note. :3dshocked:
From 1-10 I give 7 star

Thanks for all your opinions, I think I will keep the $ and wait for Korg´s Austrian piano.

I did come across this little table while looking at the EXs10

Expansion Sample_____________EXs10______EXs11____EXs12____EXs13
System Version1.5 or more_____required____required__required__required
An additional 1GB of RAM___not required_____required__required__required

So to run it you will have to upgrade your internal memory.
Seems rather strange when it is disk streamed.

For what it's worth, I bough K-Sound Pianos for my K2500XS and still use them today - they are genuinely excellent. The attention to detail and the overall balance makes K-Sound pianos among the best independent sampled pianos, in my opinion.

You will defininitely get a quality alternative piano sound in this (and K-Sound K2500 Virtual Organs sounds are excellent too though I'm not an organ player per-say so I can only offere a superficial opinion on that).

But if you are a piano player looking for substantial alternatives, you will not go wrong with K-Sound pianos - they are top notch (note I have no vested interest in promoting them here - I just think K-Sound is a rock solid company offering top notch pianos); and it doesn;t surprise me that Korg are prepared to promote them or point to them. There are one or two Karo pianos for OASYS I use - but K-Sound is a better, more stable and balanced sample alternative, in my opinion - who put a lot of thought and specialisation into pianos.

Cheers,
Kevin.
