Dead R3 Buttons.
I have a fairly new R3 which is starting to act funny. First the transpose up, numbers 2 and 6, the timbre 2 and the shift buttons go dead intermittently. The main knob also acts weird at these times with the indicator light jumping around seemingly at random as you turn the knob. I was going to try a complete factory restore to see if somehow the data is corrupt (unlikely but its worth a try) but with the dead shift key I cant even do that.... As I was writing this the buttons have come back to life and I was able to affect a restore. At least for the moment it appears to be working but I have little confidence it will stay that way. Any one else seen anything like this?

Same issue!
I started having the same problem recently! Except for my R3, its the octave down button, number 1, and number 5. Also the bank select wheel skips around. These happen simultaneously and spontaneously, at any given moment. On top of that, my 4th parameter knob is indefinitely miscallibrated and is inconsistent.
OP have you had any luck with your synth? If so, how did you fix it? If not, does anyone else have a solution? Is it defective hardware, outdated firmware/software? Is there a way to update firmware? This is very frustrating! I'm performing a live show soon and would not like to have to deal with this on stage!

I was able to reset the synth using the the Widows R3 editor. I basically just did a complete memory transfer using the original factory patches. After the factory reset I sent my patch data from a previously made backup. Glad I had that!!!
I still get the same problem periodically and the above procedure always fixes it. In my case there may be some weirdness in the MIDI connections causing the problem but so far I have not been able to track it down.
Hope that helps

You have to grab screwdriver, electronic contact cleaner and be prepare for a 1-2hrs of work.
You need to take it apart and clean all contacts on circuit boards.
I did it and now it works like a charm.

I don't think so. At least in my case the machine is practically brand new and has never been outside my studio. The symptoms are not at all consistent with dirty contacts. More likely it is a corruption of the machine's internal state. This is bore out by the fact that a factory reset fixes the problem; not at all what you would expect from a physical problem but very much what would be expected from an internal software problem.
