[nooB] KP3 - cue/phones

Post by gil videla »

All,
I have a gig coming up and Need help (CHAD?)
here's the set up: Monomachine ->input of Machinedrum->inputs of Kp3-> house mixer of club.
I will be playing alongside a laptop DJ who has asked me to basically lay down beats and noises over the top of his set using my Elektron machines.

A lot of what I'll be doing will be improvised (it's the only way I can work)

- HERE'S THE QUESTION -
since everything is running to the KP3, can I use the Headphones as a "CUE" so I can pre-listen before it goes to the mixer? He'll already have his phones in the mixer, so I can't use that...

I plugged my phones in to KP3, but I hear the same thing going out. Idon't see a OUTPUT control on Kp3 so I can hear only in the phones before sending it out...

I'm nooB to Kp3, help me out please:)

Set the level fader to 0 so nothing comes out of the KP3, then you have the headphones volume knob to control what you hear in the headphones

the fader on the left? So far (again nooB here) the fader only seems to control the level of the effects, it doesn't control anything else. Could it be I need to set something up with the KP software? or reinitialize the unit?

The fader on the left controls the master output of the KP3, that which is coming out of the RCA's. The knob that controls the effects is right above it. This fader ALWAYS controls the output, so as long as you have this up, you'll get sound from the kp3.

so weird. Well I'm not home at the moment to check it, but I could swear "MY" fader does nothing more than what I describe. Would the switch direct/send have anthing to do with this???

No, direct/send switch has nothing to do with this. But I think you should also check all this in the manual, it would be much simple to give/receive the informations you're asking.

The fader on the left does absolutely NOTHING to the output of the incoming signal. I must have a broken KP3:(

I'm with you, Gil, I think didjeko and Rob are mistaken, or it's a question of settings.

Sorry I didnt clarify. The fader adjusts the output only of the sample banks.
But if you're running audio through the KP3, it won't affect that signal.

If thats the case, you might want to invest in a cheap mixer.

so... currently I'm not (tho I may) use the Kp3 for sample playback..but I will run some samples tonight to check the fader is working.

Are your faders super loose in how it slides up n down? None of my eletribes sliders nor sliders of other synths ever had such a loose feeling slider...
is there any resistance at all on yours???

You can always control the input volume wiht one of the knobs on the left.

The slider feels shitty...mine has since I bought it 2nd-hand. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Same here. I hate the loose feeling of the KP3's slider, but thats how it is. I imagine the Kaossilator Pro is the same thing.
