What I have seen so far...it would have been more beneficial if the Kronos had a video output. If it did, I would go no where near this editor. I was screaming for it for almost a year...and now so disappointed.Biovac wrote:+1afr wrote:18 mounths to have an editor developed by third part?

I saw the other PC-editor developed by Sound Quest, they all have a better interface
Simply UNBELIVABLE

Well I am not generally one to complain....and I truly do appreciate the release of the editor, and the hard work that I know that Korg put behind getting this out (apparently bug free on my system). But.....I have to say, I am a bit disappointed by the editor as released.
Having essentially a mirror image of the Kronos U.I. on the computer is only marginally useful, for me. As side from those who will view it as a way to address the "small screen font" complaints that have been prevalent here.....I think its just simply better to edit directly on the Kronos itself. Its the exact same interface.....but its faster on the unit itself, as opposed to waiting for sys-ex transfers!
Gaining merely an enlarged view of the same Kronos interface seems to miss such a great opportunity to have enhanced the functionality of editing the Kronos. Many (if not most) PC editors that I have experienced, including Korg's own previous editors, such as Radias and M3, tend to provide *another* view into the architecture of the synth....thus providing a more user friendly and efficient way of editing it, taking advantage of the large PC screen and mouse and keyboard. While the Kronos editor does provide some (minor, in my opinion) such efficiency enhancements.....overall its really just the same exact interface.
For example.....It would have been amazing if a Kronos PC editor had included a modulation matrix all on one screen, for another way to view and edit the AMS assignments. Such "information" is already part of the sysex spec for the Kronos.....so its certainly possible for the developer to have included some re-thought interface design enhancements, such as this, to the PC editor experience. Mind you, I'm not suggesting *new* features which do not exist already in Kronos....because that is more of a pipe dream. Rather I am suggesting a stylistic efficiency boost to those features which are already included in the architecture, but might be laid out on the big PC screen in a more useful way than the limitations of the Kronos touchscreen. Rather.....the developers here merely chose to repeat the exact interface, designed to adhere to those touchscreen limitations, to be used on a huge PC interface which has no such limitations.
Again as an example, I always appreciate editing on the Radias PC editor, as it speeds up and enhances the editing experience, giving an wonderful overview and efficiency to the Radias architecture.
All in all, an odd choice in my view, and from my way of thinking.....a disappointment and missed opportunity on the part of the developers of the editor (SoundQuest? it appears).
Even having said this, I am certainly pleased that Korg got this release out, as a free update (yes I know it was an original promised feature of the K, but none the less, its a nice free update, and that is always a good thing)! So thank you Korg for that!

I'm not quite sure what the guy said or what he meant by that. We added support for new Banks (User AA through User GG) in 1.5, but there are no additional banks added in 1.6. *Maybe* he was talking about additional EXs Libraries or new PCGs which are now available on Korg.com. Or possibly there was some confusion between 1.5 and 1.6 features.billysynth1 wrote:Thnks Chuck. I thought that one of the Messe video's, german one, i think, stated that 1.6 also added more banks in the kronos? Is this correct?

1.6 lets you uninstall/delete unwanted EXs, which makes the update worthwhile just for that feature alone! Now if you demo something like the Austrian Piano, which takes up 6gb on the SSD, you can uninstall/delete it if you decide you don't want to make the purchase (rather than being stuck with it and taking up precious space)! Can't do that prior to 1.6.BasariStudios wrote:What a waste of an OS update.

Well, as stated in my thread topic, "well done" to Korg for getting it out there, but there's PLENTY of scope for improvement imho.
The plug-in is well, I won't overly comment, but does require some improvement imho.
However, the editor is useful, even if it is to back sh1t up.
I was quite surprised to see a 3rd-party name involved, as I was under the impression that this software was "in-house" from Korg. Sound Quest have never really been on my "must have" list, as the last thing I had off them took over my Mac
We'll see.
I'm going to say though, that if this is what is available on V1.6, there was NO WAY in HELL it was going to be ready for release with the keyboard launch..... so dare I say, some predictive marketing from Korg?
Doesn't detract from my opinion that Kronos is a great bit of kit.
And that said, V1.6 is a worthwhile update (as expected tbh) - just being able to uninstall EXs is great.
Shows what is possible with time on their side.
But imho, back to the drawing board with the plugin.
I mean, "thanks" but "no, thanks".
There. I've said it

I never quite understood why people wanted the editor so bad. Having a PC editor for an instrument with a 16x2 LCD display is a must, but with a big touchscreen like the one on the Kronos, what more could you want.
As someone posted, if it would be to bring new ways to edit, that would be ok but Korg never implied that it would be the case. I'm not even bothering to download and install it. The day the PC editor brings Program editing inside a Combi(like the 1990 01/W could), i'll use it, otherwise... Is it even 64-bit on Mac? I read that on Windows it's 32-bit only. With Logic 10 rumoured to be 64-bit only(no bridge whatsoever), it could even be a deadend for me.
For the users who have a problem with the font size on the Kronos, i'm sure today is a great day, though.

For someone my age (cough!), leaning over the screen for several hours editing and creating patches gives me chronic backache. The editor is a great bonus and would be even better if multisample creation was implementedblinkofanI wrote:I never quite understood why people wanted the editor so bad. I'm not so bothered about 64 bit implementation, many of my other plug-ins don't like it, so if Logic X is 64 bit only, I just won't upgrade.

Have to agree with some posts here: the editor looks like it's been imported from 1992!
I wasn't expecting something overly glossy, but the low-res images and the graphics are truly below standard. I feel like I'm sitting in front of a PC running Windows 95..
Also surprised that the editor wasn't a Korg in-house job, maybe that's the reason it looks so bad.
Dissapointed.

I hope ( but I do not believe too much ) that this is just a temporary version waiting for the official made by KorgLou wrote:Apparently the past images of the the GUI were bogus, or at some point in time is when KORG decided to outsource for what ever reason.
The graphics and software feel very 90s.. What a shame for a flagship..
Still appreciated though, and thanks to the team who ever you are for the work involved.
Having an 16x2 LCD means nothing if you reduce the font and squeeze everything you can possibly fit on one screen. Programming on a Triton Studio...awesome. Kronos...not so much. The Kronos was meant to be programmed on an LCD screen the size of Oasys.blinkofanI wrote:I never quite understood why people wanted the editor so bad. With today's technology, if there is no way we can have quick bi-directional communication between a PC Editor and keyboard workstation...then the idea should be scrapped and just add an external monitor to said workstation.
I am having a terrible experience using this editor....its worst than the Editor I have with the Fantom G.
