iMS-20 - can the SYNTH control all patterns simultaneously?

Post by Ishkash »

Hello all - this is my first post on this forum =)

So I am beginning to delve into the iMS-20. My first issue is:

Let's say I set up a 4-bar loop using SONG mode. The first three bars consist of pattern 1, and the fourth bar is pattern 2. Now I want to adjust synth parameters in real-time and have those adjustments apply to both patterns, but it seems that each pattern get its own individual parameter settings in the SYNTH section, and if I move, say the LPF during bars one-three (pattern 1) and leave it there, the knob will revert to its previous position during bar four (pattern 2). Is it possible to apply parameter changes universally across all patterns?

Thanks!

I don't think that is possible - as you see, every pattern records what happens in it and repeats it. What I often do with songs is to create my beats with the patterns and then use the live record mode for the lead which I play "live" while the patterns play. This lets me control everything as I play - I often set up the Kaoss pads to control the parameters that I want to tweak. The downside is that you can't really edit the end result.

Thanks for your response Mike.

IMO this should be addressed in a future update. Makes for a smoother workflow (well, at least the way I work!)
