Sending arp MIDI data from Kronos to computer sequencer

Post by min »

Hi. I'm thinking of purchasing a Kronos, however I'd like to know first if I can record arppegiator MIDI data straight from kronos to Logic on my computer. I have a microstation and at present with that I can only record MIDI data of notes I hold down and not the whole arp MIDI data. Also, what is the action of the semi-wighted keys like? Is it closer to a non-weighted synth action, or does it genuinely feel a bit weighty despite not being fully weighted?

Hi,
There are no arps in Kronos. There is KARMA. GEs instead of arps. Yes, you can record the data generated by KARMA into Logic, provide you set it up correctly. Timbre or Track Status = BOTH. You will learn about this once you actually have a Kronos.

It's likely you can do this with the MicroStation as well, but you haven't set it up properly. :)

Hey Min,
I do just what your asking into logic all the time. As Stephen said, it is just getting the setup correct.

Sending arp data from korg to computer

Thankyou for advising that 'both' needs to be on. I have found this same setting in my korg microstation (which is in synth hospital and hopefully gettind SD drive fixed). Sorry for being so dumb but can I ask 2 more questions? When in seq mode, what does global MIDI channel need to be set to in order for ARP midi data to be recieved by computer? And I'm assuming local control should be off as I'm slaving the synth to the computer?

I would just leave it set to channel 1. Changing the channel is okay but you will begin to complicate your channel assignments and Karma module configurations.

Local control in global must be set to On in order to send out midi data and Karma notation.
In your DAW, turn patch thru off or you will get doubling (phasing)

Global channel=1
Track status=Both
Local On= Kronos
Patch Thru Off=DAW

Sending arp data from korg

Thanks everyone for your help. Although I haven't got a kronos yet, I was able to use your advice and send my arppegiator MIDI data to logic to record. Only problem now is that when I turn key sync on to ensure the arp is played from the first beat of the arp pattern i get a horrible distorted sound and no arp playing.
