Using a Y-splitter with footswitch

Post by WindriderMetal »

I'm posting this here because more people reply in the Kronos section, however this is actually about the Karma (I am assuming that in the context of my question, the answer applies to both).

I use a Karma on stage, with a wireless MIDI system linked up to a Roland AX-7. I play both keyboards during the show, and have a microphone stand both next to the Karma and also at the front of the stage. However, I change my patches using the "Progam Up" function assigned to a footswitch plugged into the Karma, and it is quite annoying to have to walk back over to the Karma just to change patch.

Is it possible to use a Y splitter cable with the footswitch input on the keyboard, so that I can have one switch at the back and one at the front of the stage, which both do the same thing?

Thanks,
Elliot

In general this should work with any footswitch input.

You'll want both switches to be the same type, normally open or normally closed.

For normally open, the switches need to be in parallel. A 1xTS mono to 2xTS mono splitter is all you need.

For normally closed they'd have to be in series. This might require an adapter scheme that isn't common (AFAIK), something that connects T & S of Karma to one end of one switch apiece, the other ends of each switch to each other. If the Karma's sleeve contact was close enough to the tip (where the ring of a TRS connector would be) you could use a 1x stereo TRS to 2x mono TS adapter, but that might not be the case; it's not with the M3.

Hi,

I have a rotating stand and do this with the damper pedal, I think it should also work with the program up.... I just bought a Y-Adapter like this:

and connected 2 pedals, that´s it and both pedals work.

hope that helps

Thanks guys!

That's what I assumed would be needed, I just wanted to make sure it would work before I blow another £30 on an extra FS-5U.

When I was 14, I've openeed a MIDI cable and tried to split it in two because I had three Casio CZ units with no MIDI THRU  Did not work, hehehe...
