Repair question about padKontrol

Post by Steve H »

Hi, I'm new here. I just obtained a very cheap padKontrol due to it having a broken off data knob. Unfortunately, the upper part of the soldered-in potentiometer is also gone. The unit powers up and everything I can check seems to work.

The two assignable pots up to the right are marked Alpha (the manufacturer) and 85k which I assume means 85 K ohms.

Does anyone who has been inside of their unit know what the resistance value of the data pot is? (This is the knob in the SETTING section.)

Thank you.

I think you'll find that the data entry wheel (on the right) is a continuous step-wise alpha wheel, not an analog resistive type.

It works by registering ticks or pulses in each direction.

I don't have specific experience of the pK though so can't help any further,

I'm seeking info about the knob (actually the resistance of the pot) on the left. There are two assignable knobs upper right which are definitely analog pots.

From what remains soldered into the board, I'm sure the left pot (under the LED panel) is also analog. Wanting to know the resistance of this pot.

thanks,

If it's the type that is:
A) Endless
B) clicks in steps

It's definitely not analog. Korg use that same knob handle difference to differentiate between the two types on the Electribes too.

Appreciate you helping me here. I can't tell if it's an "endless" knob or not since the movable part is missing. Maybe someone who owns one could jump in here. The two "assignable" knobs are definitely analog; they are not endless as they stop left and right, are made by Alpha and are marked 85K which I take to mean 85,000 ohms.

The broken one that I am trying to research is the same green color as the other two but is slightly larger on the circuit board. It has three soldered connections like a pot normally does. All that is there is the metal base and the green plastic middle part. The knob and wiper (or click-switch if it has that) are gone.

Thanks,
Steve

I see what you mean on the Electribes. Also, I've watched some demo videos of the padkontrol on youtube and it does appear that the control in question is an endless pot.

Was hoping I'd be able to put an inexpensive analog pot in there, guess I'll have to source the actual part now.

Thanks for your help.
