Ims-20 should i get it or not?

Post by Mugaz84 »

Frist of, im all new to music making, im currently using nanostudio and some ther synths on my iPad, but, what I'm looking for is what the programs I currently use lacks, to make Psytrance kicks, and basslines,

Sure I can download tons of samples for nanostudio and so on, but I wanna take that time and put it to learn to create from scratch.

So some fast questions:
As mentioned above, will the problem help me with my attemp to be the next infected mushroom ? ;)

Will korg not forget about this ap and continue to update it and make it even bigger/better?
I know it don't use samples, but will they add more base sounds to work with?

Will there be an price drop closely?

Is this ap worth the money? And why.

How is the sound quality and effects quality?

When I was a kid, this keyboard was hard to find and very expensive. It is very well worth the money. The type of music you make is probably the biggest of your concerns. Try looking on web for songs created on this dude and go from there.

The app is a bit of beast and learning to program it well will probably take some time. That being said, from within the iMS-20 there's a feature that lets you download entire projects (sequences, patterns, patches) that users have posted on SoundCloud. This will help in giving you insight on how the app is used and programmed.

There are some great synth apps out there right now. iMS-20 sounds great but you might want to have a look at the new Magellan from Yanoc, Cassini, Animoog, Sunrizer, or Artic Keys.

All of these have some great midi (Core and Virtual) and background audio abilities, which is what the iMS-20 is lacking (background audio and virtual midi).

My current favorite is Magellan as you can create some amazing sounds from it and it is polyphonic with two synth engines.

Magellan: http://www.yonac.com/magellan/index.html
Cassini: http://iphone.icegear.net/cassini_ipad/
Animoog: http://www.moogmusic.com/products/Apps/
Sunrizer: http://beepstreet.com/
Artic Keys: http://www.onereddog.com.au/

Hope that helps. I just wish Korg would keep up with current development on it's apps.
