New to Kronos - Drum and SEQ Question

Post by ParsonPage »

Greetings to all. This is my first post, and I need help on the following:

In program mode I made edits to a drum kit. I added reverb to the snare via IFX 10. I wrote the edited drum kit to User Bank G. In program mode, when I select the drum kit, I hear the new version - the reverb is there just as expected.

But - then I went to Sequencer mode, selected the newly written/edited drum kit, assigning it to midi track 10. Problem: The extra reverb is not on the snare. The kit I hear is the original, unedited drum kit. Why am I not hearing the edited version in my sequence page?

Thanks to all who offer input.

Hi.
Go to global mode/ drumkit. If you press the "enter"button an then the key on your keyboard that relates to the snare drum, you'll se the sampledata for that snare drum. In here you can decide wich IFX you want to use. All the drumsets are setup like this. I'm not infront of my Kronos, so i don't remeber what IFX that are setup from factory.

sl71: If you use the 'copy from program' command in the drop down menu you should check the box to include the IFX's used in the saved program. (See Parameter Guide Pg 501)

Still bewildered about Drum Kits in Sequencer Mode

Post by ParsonPage »

I am still missing something and am asking for your input.

Problem #1 - I call up drum kit preset - I copy it to User FF000 for editing. I go to the GLOBAL page BUT CANNOT ACCESS the drum kit because the FF user bank is not visible. ACTUALLY FF is there, but they are all blank. The drum kit I put in FF is not visible/accessible. WHY? I am unable to edit the drum kit because I can't "see it."

Problem #2 - (I posted earlier about this but am still having a problem). Scenario: In Sequencer Mode - I have a keyboard sound on track 1. I have a drum kit on track 12. Whenever I COPY the effects from either the keyboard sound or drum kit the effects "take over" the whole song. In other words, copying the effects from the keyboard sound to track one also affects ALL THE OTHER TRACKS, and vice-versa.

What am I missing friends?? Thanks much.

If it's not there, it was not copied. Make sure that you've copied the drum kit, as opposed to the Program containing the Drum Kit.

Make sure you understand the different options in the Copy Effects dialogs.

One problem solved - help need with FX

Post by ParsonPage »

Problem #1 taken care of. Rookie error. Editing drum kits and getting them into the sequencer now a go.

PROBLEM 2 is still confusing me. A brief re-description and example.

I have Program USER B 000 FM Dynamic keys selected on track 1 of the sequencer. In am using COPY FROM PROGRAM and importing IFX, TFX, and MFX so that the FM Dynamic Keys sounds correct (with chorus, reverb, etc).

Here is my puzzle: Doing so applies ALL of the FM Keys FX to EVERY track in my sequencer. So, FM Keys sounds great, but now all my tracks are saturated with chorus, reverb, etc.

If anyone can offer advice and or point me to a page number in the manual(s) that would be much appreciated.

MFX (Master Effects) and TFX (Total Effects) are just that. The effect the total sound and the master(?) output, but I do believe there is a way to get around it Try searching the PDF Operations and Parameter Guides.

That's because the MFX and TFX settings applies to all timbres instead of one. You can set the Send FX level per timbre for the MFX type of effects (like reverb).

My advice is to change your workflow:
- first start with your most important sound and do a copy from program with the all ifx used, mfx and tfx used.
- now you have a one on one copy from that sound.
- the second and third and .... program you add you select copy from program, but this time uncheck everything and only select the IFX used checkbox
- check the Send 1 and Send 2 Send levels of the Last IFX of your last added program (this determines how much you use the original MFX1 and MFX2 effect of timbre 1)
- to keep the drumtrack clean uncheck the DKIT setting for timbre 10 and add the amound of reverb the way you like.

That's all, then everything is under control and you will no longer experience unwanted behavior.
