88 vs 76 keys

As-sides from the more notes, what other advantages does the 88 give you compared to the 76 key version?

Does anyone know what extra notes the 88 gives you?

Should I be taking this post seriously...whatever do you mean??

First of all,the Krome is 73 keys,not 76.As with any keyboard,the advantages of 88 keys(assuming one prefers heavier action),is that they're weighted and there's never any need to shift the octaves.

yes, so you actually use those extreme low and high notes enough to justify the more cost? does the 88 give 7 keys more on the bass and 6 on the high?

88 gives you more options than just a couple more low notes.

I use the extra notes at the extreme ends for things like percussion hits or (no pun) special FX.

One example is a combi I wrote for P!nk's "get the party started" in which I mapped the 'car start', 'zoom' and 'laugh/giggle' sound FX to the last few black keys of the 88 - normally there's no way I'd play these in the course of playing most tunes. Putting them at the extreme means I don't play them except on purpose.

The 'giggle' lets us play the tune in "radio edit" mode so the little ears aren't offended by "...kissin' my @$$"

These would still be possible to implement using a shorter board but the more you pull the ends in the more careful you have to be. You have less room for the melodic portion, and less still if you need to manage a split.

Another advantage is that you can make more full ranged splits that mimic two keyboards (44 notes each +/- ) rather than just the bass end of one and the treble portion of another.

Finally on many sounds, like bass, you might actually want to drop an octave without the need to press a controller - or set up a combi without the need for an octave jump down when cross-fading from treble to bass.

In my case, I have a multi keybed setup. I used to have a Roland A33 MIDI controller to play sounds from the M50, along with the Wavestation. I really didn't cared much for the M50 keybed, so the 61 key was more than perfect for this.
I'm building a new rig now, and the Krome will be the main sound generator. I still have my Wavestation, and its Yamaha keybed is awesome for fast leads. I will eventually replace my Casio WK-3300 to a MIDI controller, if I figure out how to play samples with the Krome, and set a good tone wheel emulator combi, since the Casio does not have any MIDI ins or outs.
I can find a good 88 key hammer action MIDI controller for way less than the price difference between the Krome 61 and 88, and still, I'll have more keys to spread my sounds on, so for me 61 is enough.
