Kronos, Kronos, so good I bought it twice
I've been using a 61 on top of a Nord Stage 2 for some time now and the Stage has been feeling more and more redundant, sonically. So yesterday I took advantage of the great current UK deal on original Kronos (free hard case, £99 upgrade to "X Spec") and bagged an 88. Picking it up tomorrow. Now, to get down to selling my 61 and NS2...

I wanted to get a Stage when I originally was considering a professional workstation - the polyphony is what killed it for me, considering the costs of the critter at retail.
Someday, I'd love to purchase a 61 key synth action keyboard for use with synth items - but for now, the budget really affords me the keyboard I already own.
Awesome to hear your coming aboard, though.

Weight is a common problem with workstation class keyboards. The Motif XF is -VERY- heavy, even heavier than the Kronos - as they don't seem to be designed with portability in mind, at least for the one man band type of person.agoldstraw wrote:Well, it came - and it's going back. Could barely lift the thing out of the box - just way too big, no way I can gig with that. I'm sticking with the 61 + NS2 for now, maybe later I'll add a Casio PX350 in as the 88-note. Shame, but there it is...
Are you more interested in the sounds, or the functionality of a workstation - as some stage pianos are pretty excellent in terms of sound quality - they just lack in the versatility department.

definitely. I just rearranged my work area and moved all my synths around. It had been a while since I'd picked up my Alesis Fusion 8HD.... I was blown away when I realized that it weighed 8Lbs MORE than the Kronos. And this is for a board that, while has the same amount of keys, is physically almost 1/2 the size (in width and height). All of the sudden, the Kronos 88 didn't feel so heavy.Comrad_Durandal wrote:Weight is a common problem with workstation class keyboards. AFAIK kronos 88 is pretty light for what it does, and in pro workstation category... you didn't have to bring much board anymore..
kronos 88 = 50.71 lbs
yamaha MOX8 = 32.6 lbs
yamaha motif XF88 = 63.7 lbs
Kurzweil PC3k8 = 54 lbs
Kurzwel PC3le8 = 54.15 lbs
Roland fantom g8 = 74.13 lbs (wow very heavy..)
Roland vpiano = 84.25 lbs (back broker..)
nord stage288 = 41 lbs

Comparatively light, certainly, but still a bear to manoeuvre in tight spaces and up and down steps. I've decided to keep my 61 and drive it from an on-order Casio PX-350. Weighs about the same in total, but two pieces, far more compact, two keybeds and stereo inputs/built-in speakers to help with monitoring.
yes i do agree with you, as i also struggle with thatagoldstraw wrote:Comparatively light, certainly, but still a bear to manoeuvre in tight spaces and up and down steps. well you cannot go wrong with that choice! infact most people prefer keybed feel of privia than kronos..
