I had crackling that came from voice stealing with many combis playing fast.
It was brand new KoronosX shipped 2.0.1. After upgrade to latest 2.0.2 it is gone.
I will have to double check but I picked it up 3 weeks ago. I believe it has the latest update (2.02) but I will check Thanks.
If it's a new KRONOS X, it may well have shipped with 2.0.1. There was a bug in 2.0.1 which could cause the crackling that you describe. This was fixed in 2.0.2, which can be downloaded for free from www.korg.com/kronos. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks Dan - I just got the KronosX 88 and it had 2.01 and has cracking sounds...i'll update the OS now!

@Diego5150:
I tested this specific combination for you and it seems clean of any distortion !
Anyway the sound is loud with a lot of bass so may be you have the volume that is too high for your headphones ?
Another explanation could be that you have modified unintentionally some of the factory sounds by loading PCG in some factory locations ?
The other bad and last explanation could be a real hardware problem on you K73 !

Cheers :D

Solved

Post by Diego5150 »

I just wanted to thank everyone who helped me out with the crackling issue. I am very happy to report that the 2.02 OS update was the fix and I truely appreciate all of your input.
If someone can just let me know how to label this subject solved so that anyone else who runs across this issue can resolve it as quickly and easily and I did.
Thanks to everyone again :D :verycool:

Just wanted to say that I have the kronos x 88 note, OS version 2.0.6, which I purchased about 2 weeks ago. Last night I was playing the default piano patch that loads on start up. I was playing for about 40 minutes fine. Then I started noticing a crackling in the sound. I play classical piano but at the time this happened I was just sight reading some contemporary stuff. Nothing terribly complex. I then started playing Chopin's Fantasie Impromptu and when I hit the climatic cadenza that ends the first section the keyboard started crackling like mad. I then just started hitting the Bb key repeatedly very fast up and down the keyboard and got tons of crackling. My heart sank. It is like the noise you get when you have your audio interface set to a very low latency and exceed the polyphony that it can handle. I hope this is not the case with the Kronos. It has been acting fine before all of this. I restarted the machine and it still crackled. Then I reloaded the PCG file, still some crackling but then for what ever reason it stopped.

I wish I knew what stopped it. I am also wondering if the memory might have come loose. Being classically trained I tend to play with a heavey touch. Could I have pounded on the thing so much that it loosened the memory.

Maybe it is not made for heavy hands. I will give it another go today and hope the crackling doesnt return. It was OK when I put it to bed last night. I just wish I knew what caused the crackling and then why it stopped.
