Krome Editor

Post by roger2600 »

I do not yet have a Krome but want to start making programs on the editor. Can I make and save programs with the editor even though I do not yet have the krome?

you will need a krome, a computer with 32bit OS and a download of the editor. Without the korme you can't hear anything so you editing would be pointless. I have win 7 64 bit computer and it is not working with krome. My old laptop with vista 32bit works fine with krome.

The editing software definitely works with a 64 bit computer if you run it in stand alone mode, it just does not work in a 64 bit host (64 bit Cubase which I use is a no go)
Vista 64 OS no issue at all in stand alone, as I've been using it everyday for the last week :)

A minor quibble - yes you can edit without Krome.

However, Musichoo has it right; there is no softsynth engine, so no sounds are produced with editor alone.

But you could use it for rough-in work such as copying parameters for patches from a different/earlier synth, with fine tuning tweaks happening once you have the synth.

You could definitely use it to set up or copy combis from earlier synths if you have favorites you want to bring forward. You'd need access to the other synth to see what voices are used and what the value of the "old" parameters, ranges and effects choices should be, but all those are things you could edit ahead of getting the synth.

I realize that I will not be able to hear anything, what I want to do is make template programs of every multisample and some combinations of multisamples that I already know I will use. What I don't get is how do I make a bank of sounds with the editor and save them as a bank without actually having the Krome yet?????

My version of Krome edit (mac) comes preloaded with <INIT> files for all banks and GM voices, presumably GM are non-editable.

Same for combis - all <INIT>.

That should be all you need to get started.

There is no pre-load data that I can find on line. I can only assume that this is because there is no need for pre-load back-up files due to a built in "factory" back-up routine.

Krome doesn't have a section here yet. Maybe someone who owns one can PM you a Krome .PCG file with factory voice data if you need it.

I didn't see an import function that might allow pulling a compatible (i.e., M-50) file from another location, which would have been a handy feature. Maybe it'll be added in v.2 or a multi-bank librarian function will be supported. Right now it looks like the editor is for one bank set only, that represents a full .PCG file from a single Krome.
