Can any PA600 owner tell something about user samples?
It's not stated clearly in the manual whether users can import wav or aif samples, and whether user multisamples can be created on Pa600.
It seems that users can only import ready-made sound (along with multisample) released by Korg, kind of like expansion, which users have no ways to creat their own.
Can any Pa600 owner confirm this? Thank in advance.

I´m also waiting to know abut this, korg is very vague regarding this feature which could decide if I buy it or not, it would be great if you could at least load already made multisamples like the TR used to do. It´s the term user PCM that creates all the confusion, if the user can´t load his own samples, then it should be called expansion RAM or something like that.
I’m not well up on PCM files but to answer your questions in part, I went to Korg Forums, downloads, PA1X section and downloaded some files. The pa600 would load and play, Sharp,s Irish Fairytale sound(157KB), the set of sample based sounds created by Alex(29.7MB), the Roberts Piano(7.3MB) and the Enigma set(649KB). All these files the pa600 would load and play well. I also downloaded the 01W Piano(2.68MB) and the Global Muisc(7.4MB). When I opened these two files, I found KSF files inside. The pa600 would not load these KSF files. Others may know better than me why these KSF files would not load. I searched the PDF pa600 manual and KSF is not mentioned at all. Plainly, the files that I could load were not created by Korg, so yes, pa600 will load PCM files (but not KSF).
It´s great that you can load some samples, but a pity that they limited that feature , I´m sure they limited it on purpose so you have to upgrade to the probable PA900 for full sampling, I hope as people keep getting the PA600 more samples become available , thanks for the info charlie67 , and please keep sharing your findings with this machine, greetings!
I guess KSF stand for Korg Sample File.
You can always convert it to WAV, then redo it for Pa600.

Well, you can convert to wav, then playback back to Pa600 via PC.Daniel_C wrote:The problem is that it seems like the PA600 can´t import .WAV files either, only samples in .SET files created in other PA´s ( 800, 1X, 2X, 3X ) , at least no one has confirmed if it is possible or not.
I know it would be much better to do wav > set directly on PC, but I don't know if there is a soft compatible with set's format.
PA600 Sample Upload
Hi there,
I am also interested in purchasing the PA600 and have been reading the manual regarding loading samples from previous Korg arrangers. On page 164 of the PA600 Reference Manual it says (Loading Pa2X/Pa800 data-
You can load Pa2X/Pa800 data exactly as if they were Pa600 data,
apart for the Global (GLB) and Voice Processor Presets (VOC)
files.) (Loading Pa80/60/50 data
You can load Pa80/60/50 data exactly as if they were Pa600 data,
apart for the Global (GLB) and Voice Processor Presets (VOC)
files. The only difference is that the “SOUND” folder of Pa600 is
called “PROGRAM” in the Pa80/60/50. Therefore, to load
Sounds from Pa80/60/50 disks, you must accomplish one of the
following operations:
• Either rename the “PROGRAM” folder “SOUND” (by
using a personal computer) before loading a “.SET” folder;
or
• First load the “.SET” folder, then separately load the “.PCG”
file from the “PROGRAM” folder.)
Therefore, we should be able to load the samples just by changing the fie name to SOUNDS.
Your thoughts?????
Thanks
Shawn

Well, it seems PA600 can import ready-made sound w/multisample, but it can not create multisample by itself.
Just borrowed a PA600, and can now answer some questions mentioned here.
PA600 can't import Wav or Aif file, and can't directly import multisamples either, can't create user multisamples by itself.
The folder name doesn't matter, it can load both sound and programm folder., but it means PA600 will load the whole banks of programms. You can enter into those folders, choose to load single programm within a pcg file.
When PA600 imports programms, and those programms have accompanying multisamples/samples, it will load those multisamples/samples into user sample memory together with the programms. But you can not load those multisamples/samples directly.
BTW,the user sample memory is non-volatile, and it will make the booting time longer.

thanks alot...
but to be clear...
you mean that i can't load a set from another pa series keyboard...
just like pa800 and pa2x??
From what I have heard yes, you can load sets from PA800 , Pa2x because they are already in SET format , but you can´t load any samples that arent already in a SET. I guess you have to find somebody that has one of these keyboards , have them make a set using the samples that you want to use and export them in a SET ,so you can use it on the PA600.
