Using your MicroKORG XL patches with the MicroKORG XL+

Post by kidaxel »

Hi everyone,

I'm a MKXL user from the very beginning and I just recently tried the MKXL+ in a local music store. I found that some sounds of the new factory sound bank are quite nice and I just downloaded the new MKXL+ editor trying to import the new patches into my old MKXL.

I was a bit disappointed to see that this does not work because the new file format has the extension mkxlp_all (for libraries) or mkxlp_prog for programs. Even renaming the file type did not work.

I am aware that there are some new waveforms and stuff in the MKXL+, so obviously there are also technical limitations but a lot of the new patches would also easily be possible on the MKXL I think (at least in theory).

While (from a marketing point of view) this is understandable I don't understand the following:

It is not possible to load an MKXL patch into the MKXL+. At least I don't know how. The new editor does not read the old format. So that means I can never buy a MKXL+ because all the sound patches I've created myself over the last years are incompatible with the MKXL+. Reprogramming them would take me ages.

So if you now any possibility of how to load an MKXL patch into the MKXL+ (or even the other way round) PLEASE let me know. I would LOVE to know if that is possible.

It's an unpleasant feeling to know that if my MKXL would brake someday I cannot simply buy a MKXL+ because I have to program all my beloved sounds from scratch…

Thanks a lot in advance!
Cheers from Hamburg...

You can load XL patches in to the XL+. When you open the XL+ editor there is an option called something like "import XL data" in the first or second drop down menu ( sorry on my phone and don't have software in front of me.). It will read the files as is... No need to change format.

I have already tried out. Tons of XL patch banks have been run through my XL+... Stuff I found on korg patches and the web etc. Go back to the editor and look for that import option. I missed it myself the first few times.

And vice versa?

Now the real question is can I upload the XL+'s sounds into my old XL ? If someone can upload the new file format, I will try my best to do a conversion.

So, can anyone upload the XL+'s factory presets ? TYVM

Look at here:

XL+'s factory presets can be found in package with installation of XL+ Sound Editor.
