2 x Korg nanoKontrols and Novation Launchpad

Post by graymathie »

Hi guys,

Im experiencing a bit of technical difficulty and ive spent ages looking through topics, some with similar issues but not really getting me where i want to be.

Currently got a launchpad with ableton set up for launching clips etc, and thats all i really require it for bar the odd effect.

Recently just purchased 2 nanoKONTROL2s. All i was after was 16 knobs n faders and the price was right. All i want to do is map all the nobs, faders and some buttons to whatever i want in ableton. e.g. vst nobs, fx, etc.

For the most part its fine, i downloaded the relevant drivers, and the korg editor software and i started mapping bits and bobs no problem. Whats happening is that both KONTROLs control the same thing. Apart from that its doing what i want it to do, fairly straight forward. In effect though im only able to use one or would be aswell. Now im fairly new to all this so still a big learning curver for me.

I can only assume that this is down to midi channels/ports etc, but this is where it starts to get confusing for me. I guess that everything needs to be on different channels/ports but my problem is getting them there.

When I open the 'Configure KORG midi driver' it doesnt give me and actual option for configuring anything, only shows the devices connected in the device list. It displays both nanoKontrols, displaying them as 1 and 2, so there detected separately, which i figure is good. When i click on them and view their properties, they both display 'MIDI Port: IN:1 /OUT:1'... Is this my problem? If so how do i get them on separate ports?

Read that you can change the ports manually in the Korg editor. So when i gave that a try, it displayed both korgs connected. Then i went into preferences and chose to manually select midi ports, it prevents me from going back to the editor and opening up the second device and manually selecting midi ports and repeating the process i just carried out, which is confusing.

Then i read something about midiyoke and midiox. This is where things got a bit more confusing and i started getting lost. Causing ableton to hang up etc, probably down to me not knowing what input and output goes where. So ive spent a good bit of time trying a lot of different possibilities with inputs n outputs and had controllers not working, totally conflicting, reset to default, software freezing yadayada. I guess im just not experienced enough yet so thats why im here haha, my mind is a sponge ready to absorb. Is it really as difficult as this to run 2 nanoKontrol2s together with a Launchpad for launching clips? It seems fairly straight forward in my eyes, and i guess everything would be fine, if i only had one nanoKontrol lol. However just for personal preference and jamming and enjoying myself i just fancied the possibilities of having a total of 16 nobs n faders, with all my clips ready to launch on the launch pad.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Currently i have stopped to give my brain a break, i have got myself back to a stage, where everything is operational, nanoKontrol 1 has been mapped to the relevant things in ableton and works as expected, and nanoKontrol 2 is just a duplicate of the first. All my midi syncs in ableton are as they were when i first began.

So if anyone knows how to help me i'm all ears, just try not boggle me with too technical a lingo haha

Cheers

Graham
