Triton LE 88 some PROGs have static or rattling

Post by gyoungdahl »

Recently my Triton LE has developed a rattling sound on some of the PROGs. It doesn't even happen all the time, you need to hold several keys for a couple seconds and it will start to happen. It only has cropped up on a few PROGs (that I've played enough to notice, though I have tried other "hi usage" PROGs that I rely on and it didn't happen).

I took it to a local "Korg authorized" repair center and they said that the "memory was leaking" (?) and that the mainboard would have to be replaced. Then they said that the mainboard was no longer available. So the implication is that the keyboard is now a paperweight. I was hoping someone here might have an alternative suggestion or something else to persue.

It only is happening on a few of the PROGs, but they are some that I use frequently. The problem patches generally are organ type PROGs. I've not heard the problem on any piano or other PROGs (but I haven't tried many PROGs - just those that are my "goto" PROGs). The sound seems to sync up with the leslie effect, but it may just be that the leslie is affecting the sound that is generated upstream from the effect.

I have short recordings of 4 different PROGs that demonstrate the sound if listening to the problem would provide any insights. You can go to my web site at www.stuckwitheachother.com and at the top are 4 links to mp3 files of the 4 failed PROG recordings, identified by PROG number.

If anyone has any suggestions as to how I might scrounge up a mainboard for a Triton LE, or maybe whether the diagnosis might not be accurate, and what I might be able to do about it, I would greatly appreciate it. It is hard to fathom that I can't get this fixed. There is a lot of stuff there that is functional (particularly the 88 key weighted action) which it seems a real shame to have to discard just because the part to fix it isn't available anymore. Isn't there somewhere to find this part?

Thanks,
