Legato/portamento - weird issue

Post by prazeo9 »

My problem occurs when I’m playing series of notes when legato or legato+portamento is turned on. Something is wrong with the sound – at some point it gets blurry, loses thickness, can’t really describe it. Here is a demonstration to download. The issue is most audible at 0:09-0:14.

Three things I noticed:
-The funny thing is that sound acts this way only when playing downwards – when playing upwards everything’s ok and sound is perfect. I made a little comparison at 0:15-0:23
-The shape of ADSR envelope doesn’t affect this issue. In this demonstration the lead sound is shortest attack and decay, full sustain, shortest release, so theoretically legato should sound good. Well, actually it does but only playing up.
-The notes are linked correctly if the second note is higher than first note of the melody. That either fixes the sound (0:32–0:36 or 0:42) or delays the issue (like at 0:06 where I played scale up-down, it occured later than when I played it just down)

The problem is definitely within the X50’s sound engine because when I use the synth as a master keyboard to play sounds from VST, there is no such issue, I can play legato/portamento for a long time and the sound is always full and rich:

Is it a common issue or just my X50 unit is incorrect? Or is it something I can fix with one click in the settings so I’m only making a fool of myself :P? I'd be really greatful if there's someone who is able to help me because this issue is making a great part of my lead patches (especially these where LPF is open and sound is cut dramatically) literally useless. Thanks.
