no sound

Post by jggiano »

Hello.

I downloaded and copied the Krome M1 sounds (the 4 files recommended in the intsructions) onto my SDHC card. I then loaded a) *Krome_m1.PCG and b)*Krome_M1.SNG files using the MEDIA button. I then proceeded to follow the remaining instructions(or so I thought).
When I attempted to play the Programs and/or Combi (Banks F & D respectively), some of them produce sounds, but not the correct ones, and some of them don't sound at all.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks

Don't forget to copy the Meta IMG and Sample IMG on the card. This is the extra pcm. If you don't copy that, the program combi don't sound properly or some OSC is muted.
Copy the META.IMG and SAMPLE.IMG on the root. Insert the card in the Unit and restart it.

Is it just me or are the combis a bit messed up? I copied all four of the files as above and programs work fine but unless the M1 just used random sounds in the combis something sounds wrong. Its not a total mess, just that sounds are nothing like their description so a breathy combi actually sounds like a mono lead synth.

Its a nice freebie but still waiting for Dan's pack as that sounds awesome.

I had the 2 files that you mentioned (2 of the 4 that need to be on the SD/SDHC card) already on the card from a "previous" sound collection. Possibly they are being loaded rather than the 2 files related to the M1 sound bank.
I'm going to move the original Meta IMG and Sample IMG and see if the Korg will pick up the 2 files associated with M1 sound bank. I'll post the results.

Thanks for the response(s) and ideas.

COMBI are VERY weak compared to original Combi's of Krome. Most of them dosnt have assigned APR and Drum Tracks...
Programs of the Triton pack was better too (for me)
Summary - I think so Triton pack was better

Now I get back to triton pack

BTW

Why I dont have a Triton pack after loading M1 ? Can I install both of them at the same time ?

Well I deleted the four M1 files from my main SDHC card. Then I formatted and copied the files to a separate SDHC card.
I powered up the Krome and didn't see the message "Optional PCM Bank Now Updating", as the instructions stated.
However, Bank F of the Program sounds are now responding, but there is absolutely no response from the Combi Bank D sounds.
If I work out a solution, I'll share it, otherwise suggestions will still be appreciated. Thanks.

Gents

a bit out of the subject (sorry), Qs/ what is the size of the memorry available for the optional PCM? also, can the keyboard handle multiple "added PCMs" in one time?

i think it is a nice feature that korg has added for krome, it is more or less similar to the expansion packs available for the yamaha NEW arranger keyboards.

Thanks & Regards

Step By step upgrade firmware and loading Sound collection

Post by KromeItaly »

Step By step upgrade Version V1.0.2 and loading Sound collection M1

Version V1.0.2
Attention Please
IMPORTANT: Be sure to back up your customized sounds and settings before following these steps, which
will overwrite Programs, Combinations, Drum Kits, Arpeggio Patterns and Global data. Use the “Save PCG” (Programs)

Version V1.0.2 includes adjustments and improvements for many Programs and Combinations. To take
advantage of the updated sounds, please follow the procedure below after installing the new OS.
Note: In the System Version V1.0.1, these updated sounds are already included. If you are updating the
Operation System from V1.0.1 to V1.0.2, below “Updating the Programs and Combinations” procedure is not
necessary.

KROME_M1 data

Attention Please:
Before you begin - Make sure that you backup important data onto an SD/SDHC card before you begin this procedure. If you load this data, existing data on your KROME will be overwritten.
Note: Some Programs and Multisamples may have an upper limit to their keyboard range, over which they may not produce any sound.

Data in this collection KROME_M1 data will be loaded into the following locations:
 Program: F Bank
 Combination: D bank
 Drum Kit: 032-047 (USER) Bank
 Song S000-S0005
 Cue List C00

start enjoying these bonus sounds!

I hope I've helped.
Thanks to Korg

I updated the OS -- THANKS for the tip.
However, here are the results with the M1 sound bank:

Program Banks A, B, C, D, E are working; Bank D has no sound

Combi Banks A, B, C are working; Bank D has no sound.

Still hoping for a solution. Is the M1 Sound bank working without any problems for anybody?

Thanks.

Hey jggiano

What you want to do is first to copy the four files in the krome_m1 zip file that you downloaded to the root of the SD card (easiest way to do it)
“KROME_M1.PCG”, “ KROME_M1.SNG”, “META.IMG”, “ SAMPLE.IMG”

After that, plug it in your krome and then turn the krome on. you should see when it starts, something like "updating pcm... etc."
when that is done - there should be no problem in loading the presets go going into media and loading the m1 sounds

Btw Rule of thumb - Always make backup before loading.
That way you shouldn't loose anything you may have done in the krome ;)

Thanks for your assistance.

I copied all four files on a separate SDHD card (that may not have been necessary), in order to eliminate any possible conflicts from other data on another card.

I still had problems with Prg F and Combi D banks sounding. But I turned off the power and re-booted and ALL the banks are working correctly.

Thanks again.

P.S. Can you tell me what ".bin" files are for?
