Thinking Of Selling My Kronos
Hello Everyone!
Its been awhile. I lost my password and can't recover it. I used to be Ultimate Dj n have been a member for like 7 years.
Anyways, after have owned all the recent Workstations from Korg...starting with the M1, Oasys, M3, Karma, and now the Kronos. I finally got my dad on a Mac and using Garageband and Logic (Darn X just came out :-/ ), its looking like the Kronos is going to be sold. We travel so much, its getting expensive to take something so oversized with us on the plane. We don't perform live yet...just spin the mixes from discs or iPods.
So now, my question is, in you alls opinion, what would be a good synth/keyboard that would work as a MIDI Board, smaller than a 61key and give us something to hence working in Logic, something I couldn't get just purchasing a VSTi.
I saw the MICROKorg and liked that a bit. I would LOVE to have Karma in a module. Anything have Karma thats less than a 61 key?
Thanks amigos!

yeah the Karma software... but i'm not sure it will work without a synth (as far as Karma MIDI out to other synths (from the computer))
but you could purchase the karma m3 software and then run it from the m3 module (which would be pretty cheap to fly)

I've got the M-Audio Venom that I use in a MBPro w/Logic 9 and it works great as a portable system....My biggest complaint would be that I don't like the feel/response of the keys but it does work for getting both audio and midi in and out of Logic.....I loved the touch response of the keys on a Korg Control 49 I had many years ago but it only did midi....moon

I would add a maschine, if money permits the whole complete 9 ultimate, and a controller keyboard. I love my novation sl mkII 49 key. I am half way there, still saving for the ultimate but I have maschine and the sl and running logic 8 express. Maschine works in logic and I have had the sl jacked into the maschine. I have not tried doing usb to the mac with the sl but I see no reason it wouldn't work. I even saw some youtube videos of how to set it up. The sl is just a controller though, no synth of it's own. I find the sl keys almost like the keys on the Kronos 61 almost but not quite, close enough for me. I would still try to keep the Kronos though even if you don't travel with it once home it would be a useful tool.
so many ways where to go
Yeah, M3 module.... or even smaller - probably triton module will work as well if you need Karma
Alternatively if you can live without Karma there is NI Machine or Ableton Live + Push or Livid Base (may even fit in single backpack along with your laptop) or instead of laptop you can have Muse Receptor rackmount vst-host workstation in combination of midi controller to your like. Alternatively to Karma you can use Kirnu Cream VST arpeggiator - which is extremely powerful - I prefer it to Karma, because I can use it in mobile environment without engaging dedicated Karma hardware and it is much easier to program it.
On side note. Sad that you have to part with Kronos for mobility, I hope that next Korg workstation brain will fit in to backpack and it will be possible to connect it to any midi controller or special Korg keyboard controller which would allow more features such as polyphonic XY controls with capacitive keys and so on - technically I don't see a reason why that couldn't happen as today's mobile phones (they are unix OS based similarly to Kronos) show even better bechscores than Intel Atom based Kronos brain. And if Kronos OS can work with Atom platform only - the are pocket sized smartphones with IntalAtom inside. Probably the only issue to be solved is integrated/attachable IO interface for nano/pico ITX type or mobile Atom boards. Here we get back to modular construction of M3
Professional (ortodoxal?) keyboard players won't forgive me this (and I guess Korg marketing knows that too).... uh sorry for disturbing.

the triton rack does not have karma... only the arps. (not sure if dual or not though)

I have an M3 module in pristine condition with EXB-Radias + something else I just can't recall - perhaps extra ram - as well as the Karma software and one or two sound banks (from Karma-Labs)?Bald Eagle wrote:I would go with an M3 module with EXB-Radias plus a more portable midi controller. You get Karma, a VA synth and a lot of great sounds similar to Kronos.
Anyway if you live near San Francisco and would like to swap your Kronos....
PM me?

I would do that too, if KRONOS had those missing features which prevented me from buying it so far.....apex wrote:I don't care where you live... I'll come to you with the m3.Shakil wrote:If you live in NYC Metro area, you can PM me instead..apex wrote: Lol
