Bank selecting from external sequencer problem
For years, I've been using a Yamaha QX3 midi recorder and all I had to do was inpuy Control change 032 00 to02 for the banks on my Kurzweil PC88MX (plus a programme number of course)
Now I have a Kronos, I can't seem to work out what bank control numbers to use!??
Programme numbers come out fine of course, but the bank numbers seem to come out randomly.
As you can't ask a manual questions, I thought I'd put it to the vote!
Anybody????
Cheers
Toni

Look at the table showing the Ctrl0/32 and program change combinations. It's taken from the Kronos parameters manual.

Hey Toni
I'm not gonna pretend to know what is going on in the following extract from the Parameter Guide, but you may be able to decipher if for use in your QX3.
Bank Map
MIDI Bank Select messages work in conjunction with
Program Change messages to select Programs and
Combinations.
Bank Select uses two MIDI CCs: CC#0 for the upper
byte, and CC#32 lower byte.
The table below shows how Bank Select messages are
mapped to the internal Program and Combination
banks.
INT–A 00. 00
INT–B 00. 01
INT–C 00. 02
INT–D 00. 03
INT–E 00. 04
INT–F 00. 05

I have no way of checking how all that stuff works in real time, but if you're struggling with it, perhaps one of the forum Pro guys can help you out.

Ooops - sorry Francois, that is a much better response than my effort...

Sequencer control numbers
Thanks to Kaptain and Francois.
Merci beaucoup!
I was almost there with the control number business (basically works same way I've always done it) but seems I was missing out on the how to set the Kronos up to receive outside broadcasts!
I now put it in sequencer mode (that's part of which control numbers to use) and all the banks and programmes work fine.
I just ran out if available time today and still need to work out how to get it to play the G (general midi) bank but I'm sure that will become evident once I put my head on again tomorrow!
Once again thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Cheers

Re: Sequencer control numbers
Bank Select will work in all modes - no need to use Sequencer Mode.FBB69 wrote:Thanks to Kaptain and Francois.

The CC#0 and #32 values for each bank, including GM, are detailed in the Parameter Guide, as Francois and kaptainkeyboard note:
Global P0: Basic Setup -> 0–1: Basic Setup -> 0–1d: System Preference -> Bank Map

Bank Select works great when using the MPC Renaissance with the Kronos. I spent a lot of time communicating with Akai to make sure the Renaissance was right as Kronos is my go-to workstation.
One day I hope the Renaissance with support XML scripts so I can read the name of my Kronos patches in my MPC.
