Sending program change to external hardware.

Post by outsider9 »

I've set up MIDI channel 1 to EXT2 on sequencer mode to send program change to my miniNova.
I insert MSB:000 LSB:032. But then what?

And, is it possible to insert a program change somewhere inside a song in the internal sequencer?

Thanks a lot!

You can use the Event Edit command in Sequencer mode to insert a program change into a song. The Event Edit command is documented starting on page 196 of the Parameter Guide.

Thanks Bald Eagle. I'll try it as soon as I'm in front of the unit. Looking at the PG it seems pretty straight forward right now (no MSB/LSB stuff), which of course makes life a little easier. 8)

Cheers!

Unfortunately, it didn't worked that way.
I went to Event Edit and unticked everything but Program Change. But on the editing menu the Insert button is greyed, so it clearly works just for editing available events.
I guess I can edit the MIDI file with an external editor and insert the program change that way. I haven't found a clear explanation on the MSB/LSB commands.
Thanks for your help.

For now I've settled with this workaround: I record the program change in real time from my external hardware (miniNova on this case). Of course that's not practical in most cases. But then I go to Event edit, change the event time to the measure/beat I want and there I can insert bank number and program in a human way.

It's not the most intuitive interface. When you first click the Event Edit command the Insert button will usually be greyed out. Try the following.

1. Scroll to where you want to insert the program change.
2. Click in the first box of an existing event. It should be the box next to a line that says BT.
3. The Insert button should be available now so click it.
4. The event is probably inserted past the bottom of the screen so scroll down a line. It should be a duplicate of where you did the insert.
5. Click on the second box in that line. It will probably have a note value but might be something else.
6. Scroll the value all the way to the top. The program change and other events will be a the top of the list.

It seems like a lot but its really easy once you get used to it.

That will work similarly to the workaround I mentioned. I was pressing Rec and just scrolling (any) programs for a second on the miniNova, then returning and editing the program change event with the actual program I wanted. It's a little cumbersome, but it's doable. :D
Btw I had not realized those parameters where hiding atop of the note values. Thanks!
