MIDI Controller and Step Sequencer Recommendation

Post by Bald Eagle »

Can anyone recommend good MIDI controller and step sequencer apps for the iPad? I'm mainly looking to control external hardware.

Genome is pretty good. Combine that with MIDI Bridge and you can connect anything to anything with filtering options. I use my iPad as a MIDI Host to route between it and external hardware. For example, I might have my microKey and nanoKontrol2 connected to an external USB hub and route them through Midi Bridge to NanoStudio, Genome and Turnado and my OP-1. microkey routed to the OP-1. nanoKontrol2 routed to NanoStudio and Turnado. Genome routed out to the OP-1. I even have some of my buttons on the nanoKontrol2 routed to two different MIDI channels using the scripting in MIDI Bridge.

Midi Bridge will make things easier if you try to do something besides just connect the iPad out to one hardware item.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I have my iPad connected to a Griffin StudioConnect and that's connected to a MOTU Express XT so I should be all set with routing options.

Let me know how you like the griffin. I use a behringer UFO202 and a powered usb hub and a usb-to-midi adapter (for any 5-pin requirements) and they work great but I would like a one-stop solution and the griffin meets part of that solution.

Keep MIDI Bridge in mind, though, if you run into unique requirements as the scripting on it is amazing! I couldn't do half of the things I do with my iPad without it.

I really like the Griffin. I did a mini review at this thread. Scroll down to the end.

I'll also take a look at MIDI Bridge.
