Effect pedals to go with Volca Beats

Post by anti- »

I'm looking around for pedals to beef up and have more control over the Volca Beats sounds. Anyone has tried any with success? or can anyone suggest any that could work? Distortion, overdrive, reverb, anything.

like you said, you can use anything.

Try the Kaoss Pads (mini, KP3, and mini2). Roland SPs. any guitar pedals. Monotron delay. Anything, man.

Distortion/Overdrive/Bitcrushing, compression, delay and flanging would be good starting points for beats.

thanks, but I'm actually looking for suggestions of actual models (eg. Boss DS-1), especially those already tried and tested, cheers

One of my favorite portable effects processors is the Alesis Ineko. You can't chain effects together, but it offers easy, hands on control. It's roughly the same size as a Volca too.

Perhaps the new Korg Pandora Stomps are worth a look?

However, the Mini Kaoss Pad looks to be much more hands on and fun...

I had a zoom b2 laying about my house and have been running my volca bass through it, its effects probably wouldnt be considered super high quality i guess, but im a bit of a noob and i find it to be quite fun.

A line 6 M9 would work well, it’s a stompbox modeller with three slots that you can any of its hundred or so effects in any order, which makes it much more flexible than traditional guitar multi-effect units. It’s got MIDI out (and in) so you could synch effects with the Beats, and it’s got inputs for two programmable expression pedals for hands free tweaking.

I’ve got the other two members of the family, the M5 and M13 and I’ve been using them with a Monotribe in an overly complex setup. The M13 would probably be overkill, and the M5 to limited to use on its own.

Behringer VD400 Vintage Delay is real analogue, retails for US$25, and pairs nicely with the Volca Bass. Maximum delay time (without tweaking an internal pot) is 300ms. I wondered, before I bought the pedal, whether it would be enough; it was.

Ive decided i dont care about analog purity, and bought a korg mini kp kaosspad(mk1) since its super affordable(i got mine for $79 on ebay new in box[+$13 shipping]) to pair with my Volca Bass. I believe they are discontinued, but that doesnt seem to have effected the price. Ive got the 1/8th to rca adapters for it already. Not sure yet how it sounds, but when it arives ill be certain to make a post on my opinion of it in combo with my Volca. My zoom pedal is nice, but its got these ghetto rotary encoder knobs that have a hard time keeping track of real time edits, so im hoping the KP will be much better.
