That's good to hear - but - it's several years old now; and its basically a custom manufacturing setup. Essentially - an old product not available.

So if he brings it out on a yearly basis, why aren't there stands on the Jupiter 8, Minimoog, CS80 and so on. These are being restored to mint condition all over the world.

Indeed - the EMS VCS3 is still being manufactured - I'm on the list to have one made for me in the next two years. You don't see that at NAMM.

My point - this has already been shown at NAMM numerous times. It's not an instrument in production, and it never was. There are hobbists all over the world with strange instruments, but they're not at NAMM. Just because this looks like something in production, which it's not, does not elevate it to anything more than a curiosity. To me, it's fine to see it once at NAMM; but it's nothing more than an idle curiosity that, crucially, has had no impact on the music world. I feel NAMM is about instruments that matter, and the future of music technology - this is neither. We've seen it - well done - clap on the back - just stop looking for attention every year (or get off your backside like the rest of those at NAMM and develop a sustainable business model). I'm tired of ooh'ing and ahh'ing at this - yeah its wonderful but it means nothing.

Geez ... What did the guy ever do to you? He's just having a good time with his creation. I'd be showing it off too.

I would sell my car for one ... Oh wait ... My car isn't worth that much.

Enthusiasm is what turns the world, not business ... business is just needed to support it. Schmidt I think is good example of enthusiasm. Hats off!

BTW if you didn't notice I think he mentioned somewhere that he added multitimbrality this year so it is not exactly the same as last year and also even with 25 pieces it is in production scheduled this summer. Yes it is expensive and with such small batches that is inevitable. It is boutique instrument, just live with that :)

Well - I'm not hostile towards this - reading forthright text can sound hostile. I think its wonderful - but - this is the third year in a row that people have been flagging it; and I just think its disproportionate.

If there is a serious point that I think is valid its this:

I do think that the likes of restored Jupiter 8's and CS80's would do better to be shown at NAMM - to remind people of what has been available and what quality has been in production in the past.

Also - like the Haken Continuum - I feel as well that the Schmidt Synthesizer contribute to an increasing perception that top end quality products are consigned to be curiosities, and available to wealthy individuals. It's wonderful that Hans Zimmer has one of these - but with respect to Mr. Zimmer - it's about a decade since he has used a hardware synthesizer in any sort of meaningful way (and largely uses synths as decoration these days) - and while I'm a fan of his soundtracks, he isn't an electronic musician any more - so who cares that he owns one - he'll never use it for anything creative.

I see this as part of the poor trend even by the likes of Korg and others who have removed aftertouch as standard - in essence pushing up the price of such features to unacceptable levels.

I know the likes of the Minimoog was expensive when released, but the likes of Bob Moog worked their asses off to create markets, and to lower prices every which way and crucially - to get synths out to creative players and composers.

This is none of the above. Business wise this creator is either useless or lazy at business. Proposing a business model that releases a 100 of them at $20,000 each means damn all. Put a proper business plan in place and you could create 5000 of these for 5 - 6000 dollars each. Or - use it to make a smaller version.

Do something worthwhile that pushes the boundary in meaningful ways - otherwise - as said - well done - but stop pushing this in our faces as if it means anything worthwhile.

If I sound intense its because there are many important issues in music technology; and I see this instrument as a negative influence (being wheeled out and being suggested that it represents anything meaningful).

Let me put it this way - there are probably hundreds of engineers with amazing synth ideas that are unsustainable. Should we set up a soap box in NAMM and let them give a powerpoint presentation of their idea? And should they come back year after year with the same idea on PPT?

Yes, absolutely. These are the very ideas that while they may not be executable by the engineer they may be the spark that lights the fire for another who can mold it into something spectacular.

Fine - but NAMM wouldn't tolerate it (nor would the visitors!). The Schmidt Synth is just one step further along that line - he built a prototype. Don't misunderstand me - it is an amazing prototype - and if I were wealthy I'd buy one - and as said - showing it at the first year at NAMM fine - but - year in year out - too much (and repeating myself - it does NOT represent the development that others are claiming).

Hello Basari Studios.

If i speak confusing to u ask me for explanation.

"Consciousness" means "подсознание",
"совесть" is a part of "подсознание" , but also there are other parts.
I would be extremely careful with that because many parts of "Consciousness" can be manipulated and controlled externally by intruders but it depends how well u are protected, exept "совесть" which English does not have exect word unfortionaly and this part cannot be accessed by anybody i know exept where it comes from( God? ) . But i tried to define what "совесть" means on my web site.

Kevin's statements bring out an important issue I have been focusing on heavily lately before gaining my wealth back on paper dealing with issues in order of importance threatening anyone's enduring wealth and prosperity:The widening division between the classes of wealth where the Law's of Man required to deal with Nature's unbreakable harsh laws required to create the social template Man needs to avoid horrific conflict and loss as Einstein, Feynman, as well as all the rest warned us WILL HAPPEN without it. But right now the template Law and Order create is being thrown into the trash can where too many dead American's at the hands of Police are now ending up requiring a bigger trash can that greed will have no problem creating using the emotions of Man with a few carrots added to show the way to it as energy follows the path of least resistance Fukushima got in the way of.

Seeing a small woman who harmed no one with the proper firearm permits fire a warning shot in the air to stop a 245 pound man acting in a rage of hate while violating a restraining order for already assaulting her arrested and sentenced to 20 years in jail while six Police Officers announce they are going to "*uck you up" to the Son of another Police Officer sitting down of no threat to them... and then beat him to death to get their "fix" of Hate is a bad sign not of things to come, but rather what has arrived because people see what they want to see rather than what is real and needed...in this case aftertouch to start a list Kevin referred to that 20 years ago would never be accepted even by a beginner just starting out.

chilly7 said (almost): "I would be extremely careful with that because many parts of "Consciousness" can be manipulated and controlled externally by intruders but it depends how well u are protected, except "совесть" which English does not have exact word unfortunately and this part cannot be accessed by anybody I know except where it comes from ( God? )."

Somebody needed to say that to the Jury members involved exposing the true Nature of Clay warming up.....
Think Peace...

I have to admit .. I eagerly waited for some news and a video about the Schmidt synth. :)

I am a fan of digital synths and no big analog fanboy but this thing is PHATT.
I love the sheer size of it and all those buttons and the wall of sound its able to generate.

Digital synths should also have that amount of buttons to influence the sound or sliders on a virtual interface or at least an iPad with tons of controls. 8)

btw.: John Hendry are you feeling alright?

Whether it was Schmidt or someone else it seems to me they are doing ok with marketing this thing. It made it to NAMM several times it is in production albeit a small run, and they apparently have a fair amount of advertising Just from people in forums who either like ti hate it or are po'd because of it. That beast doesn't have 10k in parts in it so I think he will make a bit of profit if he can pull off selling 100 then at 25 units a year sell it off to someone who will adapt it to mass production he will yet again make some cash. Good for him. Pretty good plan in my book if he pulls it off. The catch will be selling 100 at 20k. IMHO

I hope he pulls it off. I would like to see it go to mass production in 5 or 6 years.
