volca bass > midi keyboard

Post by ditto »

I have a Volca bass and I have an Axiom Pro 49 (which I've only ever used for triggering sounds in Kontakt), but I don't know how to hook them up so I can trigger sounds using the keyboard. I know approximately nothing about midi. I've tried cabling the midi out on the Volca bass to the keyboard, but no joy. Any ideas?

hi ditto all should need to do is connect the midi out from your Axiom to midi in on the volca bass and it should work as long as they are on the same channel eg channel 1. question is the axiom connect to your computer when you trying to play the bass, it might be that you have to power the axiom with out the computer eg external powers supply or ac adapter to usb port

here quote from the manual When using Axiom Pro without a computer:
• Connect a 9V DC, 500mA power supply to the Power Socket on the rear panel of the keyboard. This power supply is
optional and can be purchased from the M-Audio webstore (store.m-audio.com). Alternatively, a USB-type power supply
can be connected to the USB port instead of the standard 9V power supply.

Connect the MIDI output port of your Axiom Pro to the MIDI Input port of your sound module, synthesizer, or other MIDIcapable
device.

hope that helps and good luck have fun making music

Hey thanks Dog. Yeah, it was a channel issue. The keyboard's powered by a USB port, and the Volca's powered with an adapter. The issue now is that the volume changes dramatically sometimes. I wonder if it's how the Volca's interacting with the key velocity of the Axiom.

velocity works based on how hard you hit the keys. If you're hitting some keys harder than others, that will cause the note to play louder and vice versa.
