Controlling another synth

Post by gweston »

Hello

I am trying to control a Nord Stage 2 from my Korg Pa3X but I can not seem to figure out the correct Midi out setting on the Korg.

I can choose the lower section or the upper section and assign to channel 1 but I can not select them all and the Nord does not have a onmi setting.

Any advice would be appreciated.

By control, do you mean to pass through the notes you play on your PA so they sound on the Nord? Of course, this would mean that both instruments would sound their voices simultaneously. I don't see the advantage of that. On the other hand, I have used midi between my arrangers (PA and Tyros) and a Hammond SK-1 in such a way that the arranger acts as a lower manual to the Hammond. To achieve this I have to set both instruments midi so the lower is passed through to the Hammond rather than upper. It allows me to use the arranger's styles and accompaniment and sound lower manual chords on the Hammond. Thus I can still use both right hand manuals alternately broadening the voices available significantly. BTW, this also passes through the volume pedal to the Hammond so I only need the one expression pedal for both keyboards. It's all just a case of selecting only those midi functions needed.

Let me know what you're want to achieve and I'll see how I can help you.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I have a player coming in that does not like playing organ with weighted keys, as the Nord has. So I wanted to use the non weighted pa3x le to play the more organs, that is why I was hoping to get the full range to work.

In that case, use upper transit only making sure split and all voices on your Pa3X are off. You will probably need to do a little configuring on your Korg's midi outputs to ensure it is sending all that is needed but basically you should only need to send Upper 1 through channel 1 and set the following Filters on the midi out filter screen... Sys. Excl, Prg. Change, 6 Data Ent., 7 Volume, and Notes. You may not even need all these but it should work for what you are trying to do. Of course, you need to match your Nord to the right midi in settings, but I used to do exactly what you're trying to do with a Nord Electro 3 and Yamaha PSR740 so the Stage 2 should not be too hard to get going.

Good luck...
