As far as I know the SFX import feature is really meant to be used for small/short phrases...I don't know if there's a limit to how long a sample could be? Maybe there is..........All in all, you can't really take a screw driver to do a jack hammer job. The point is, this is not the right instrument to handle audio based gigs in this manner. As an mp3 player maybe,...but in that case, I would just use an iPod to do that.Dikikeys wrote:Don't timeslice it. Use it as an SFX sample. Of course, you won't be able to change the tempo of the piece, but you don't want to do that, do you? Simply create a sampler program, with the song as the ONE sample, set the envelope so that it sustains indefinitely (or have a note on at the beginning of the sequence and the note off at the end). Make sure the loop is off for the sample (unless it's a shorter loop you want to repeat), and you ought to be good to go.Sam CA wrote: Are we now talking about the Sampling mode here? To sample and time slice a 3 to 5 minutes long pop song?
About the only worry I see with this is, the sample will use two oscillators (if it's a stereo sample), and if you exceed the polyphony of your PA3X, it might chop the sample off. I am not sure if there's a way to ensure that the priority of voice allocation is the highest possible, which would ensure that it doesn't get cut off, but as long as you aren't playing massive layers over it or maxing the polyphony out with the sequencer section, you shouldn't really have to worry about this...
As I said earlier, though, you may need to insert some silence at the start of the sample (in a DAW) to make sure that the 'one' actually occurs on the 'one' if the recording has a pickup or starts on a later beat.
The only reason you want to timeslice a sample is so that you can change the tempo of it. But you don't want to do that, so one continuous sample should be fine.
I do agree that an ipod is possible to use. But thenyou dont have the Songbook feature. I store the MP3's in the song book for fast recall with voices. This is great on stage.
