V3 - Fan speed and temperature

Post by BobTheDog »

Hi Guys,

In version 3 if you go to Globals and pull down the menu you will now see an option called "Fan Control Setting".

If you choose it you have an option to lower the fan speed, I have not been brave enough to try this yet!

There is also a temperature read out, mine seems to be running quite hot at 61C, what sort of readings are you guys getting?

Cheers

Andy

61° C is not super hot, it is the normal temperature for most CPUs, usually defined as anything between 50 and 65°.

This week-end, I'll check what reading I get with the special silent fan installed inside my K73.

I have 42° at start, 59° after playing some songs, but they are not so tough so I can't tell when the proco is very stressed =)

wow, that ' slow fan' setting is quiet.

I don't hear it running at all.

I am going to track that temperature gauge. See if there is any chassis heat buildup

Room temp is 19C here right now and on the slow speed my KRONOS is at 53C.

It's really quite.

I hadn't noticed the fan control until I saw this thread. The slow setting really makes a difference in the noise. It's odd, the auto setting seems to mean fast rather than auto. You would think a setting named auto would run slow sometimes if it could. At least on the slow setting it will automatically run fast if it gets too hot.

This morning I have had my Kronos on for about 3 hours and the temperature is 55° C with the fan set to "Auto".

I think its a little wordplay for us long time Kronos owners. If the fan selection said ' fast' I don't believe i would ever use that setting

I had never noticed any fan noise till after the update to 3.0.2 so finding the option to run it on the Slow setting made it whisper quiet again.

Ya gotta read the documentation, guys...from the KRONOS_Param_Guide_E8.pdf, page 808:

Fan Control Setting

This allows you to control the system’s fan, and to check the internal temperature.

1. Select the Fan Control Setting command to open the dialog box.

2. Set the Fan Speed as desired. Auto is the default; the system will control the fan based on the temperature of the system. Use Off to minimize the operating noise of the fan. Please note that you should use this setting only temporarily, and not routinely. If Fan Speed is set to Off, take care that the System Temperature shown on-screen does not exceed 80°C. If the temperature exceeds 80°C, the fan will turn on regardless of the Fan Speed setting, and continue until the system has cooled sufficiently.

On KRONOS units from 2013 or earlier, and on the KRONOS X, Slow is available instead of Off. With this setting the fan will move slowly, but will not stop completely. If the temperature exceeds 89°C, the fan will switch to a higher speed regardless of the Fan Speed setting, and continue until the system has cooled sufficiently.

I spent just over 6 hours work today operating the KRONOS in SEQ mode sequencing for a client. So little to no idle time during that 6 hours of madness.

When I could I checked the temps, the Studio averaged 19.5C and the KRONOS averaged at 58C on the slow fan speed setting during the heavy session.

lol... that's pretty amazing really. It's the slow fan speed all the way for me unless I win the lotto and decide to move to LA.

Sharp.

My temperature is around 45 degrees on startup. After about 15 minutes on just idle, it gets to 72 degrees.

It's gone as high as 82 degrees just playing sounds and sequences.

The Kronos never actually feels hot, though.
I have the Noiseblocker fan

This is on the auto setting, btw

A peak of 82C is quite hot, and your not using an official fan. Hmmmm... I wonder if there's an connection there.

What's your average room temperature there?

I seem to get a constant 61° from the Noise Blocker after two days on. I've left the Auto mode on as I cannot hear anything at all.
